Position Summary: 

The Senior Trade Marketing Manager plays a critical role at the intersection of sales, marketing, and retail execution. Their main objective is to drive brand growth and product visibility in retail environments (e.g., grocery, convenience, specialty, and mass merchandise stores) by developing and executing go-to-market strategies that align with both brand goals and retailer needs. This role will lead the development and execution of marketing strategies with our priority retail partners. They will collaborate cross-functionally with the Sales, Marketing Go-to-Market, and Creative teams to develop joint business plans that not only elevate brand presence but also accelerate sell-through for the retail channel. This role requires a balance of strategic thinking, partnership management, and flawless execution.

Responsibilities:

Retail Strategy & Planning

  • Develop the retail trade marketing strategy that supports national brand objectives while being tailored for specific retailers and channels (e.g., Target, Vitamin Shoppe, Scheels, Harmons, etc.).
  • Build annual and quarterly customer-specific plans in collaboration with sales and brand marketing.
  • Identify regional opportunities and adapt strategies based on local trends, competitor activity, and sales performance.

Shopper & Category Insights

  • Leverage shopper behavior data, syndicated data (e.g., Nielsen, IRI), and customer insights to inform retail activation plans.
  • Partner with the retail team to influence planograms and shelf strategies.
  • Use insights to design promotions and campaigns that convert shoppers at the point of sale

Trade Promotions & Budget Management

  • Own the trade marketing budget and ensure ROI-driven allocation across key accounts and initiatives.
  • Design and execute in-store promotions, temporary price reductions (TPRs), endcaps, displays, and feature opportunities.
  • Analyze trade spend effectiveness, collaborating with finance on post-event analysis and reporting.

Retailer Collaboration

  • Serve as a key point of contact for trade marketing with retail partners, aligning on joint business plans and promotional calendars.
  • Deliver tailored marketing materials and ensure proper execution in retail channels.
  • Co-develop customer-specific programs (e.g., loyalty tie-ins, new item launches) in partnership with national accounts.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Work closely with:
    ○ Sales: To align execution with account goals and field needs.
    ○ Brand Marketing: To ensure brand consistency in retail activations.
    ○ Creative/Design Teams: To develop in-store assets such as signage, packaging, and displays.
    ○ Operations/Supply Chain: To ensure the availability of promotional inventory.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years experience in channel marketing, retail marketing, or shopper marketing, preferably within CPG or related industries
  • Deep understanding of retail dynamics in CPG: shopper behavior, channel differences, retail operations
  • Strong analytical capability to assess promotion performance, category trends, and ROI
  • Experience with tools such as IRI/Nielsen, Spins, Numerator, and POS data
  • Excellent project management and cross-functional communication skills
  • Creativity in developing shopper-centric activations that meet retailer objectives
  • Proven track record of developing and executing co-marketing programs that drive awareness and sell-through
  • Excellent project management skills; able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
