Position Summary:

Momentous is seeking a Senior Design Manager to lead and develop our in-house design team while driving the visual quality of everything we produce. This role sits at the intersection of creative excellence and team leadership—you are as comfortable giving sharp creative direction on a campaign as you are building the systems and culture that help three designers do their best work. You bring a strong design point of view, a bias for action, and the organizational instincts to keep complex, fast-moving projects on track.

This role is responsible for:

  • Project leadership across the full design lifecycle
  • Direct management and development of 3 designers
  • Defining and evolving design strategy and workflows
  • Ensuring visual consistency and brand integrity across all outputs
  • Cross-functional alignment between design, marketing, and brand teams

If successful, this role becomes the operational and creative backbone of our design function—the reason our team produces great work, consistently and at speed.

Responsibilities:

Project Leadership

  • Lead design projects from concept through execution, personally contributing high-quality design work on priority initiatives while ensuring team output meets brand and craft standards
  • Translate creative briefs and campaign strategies into clear design direction, balancing hands-on design work with oversight of timelines, priorities, and deliverables
  • Partner with the Creative Director and cross-functional stakeholders to align on scope, objectives, and creative approach at the outset of every project
  • Serve as the internal quality bar for design output—both through personal execution and through review and direction of team work
  • Step in as a hands-on designer during key moments, high-priority campaigns, or bandwidth constraints to maintain speed and quality
  • Anticipate production bottlenecks and proactively problem-solve to keep work moving without sacrificing craft

Team Management

  • Directly manage and motivate a team of designers, providing clear expectations, regular feedback, and genuine investment in their growth
  • Mentor designers by modeling high-quality design work and strong creative thinking, not just providing direction
  • Foster a collaborative, high-accountability creative culture where great ideas are welcomed and great execution is the expectation
  • Conduct regular 1:1s and performance conversations that are honest, specific, and forward-looking
  • Source and manage freelance design talent as needed to scale capacity during peak periods

Strategic Planning

  • Define and evolve the design team’s strategy, ensuring creative output aligns with company goals, brand positioning, and customer expectations
  • Develop and refine workflows, templates, and processes that improve consistency, efficiency, and quality
  • Build and maintain design systems and brand guidelines that scale visual consistency
  • Partner with Growth and Ecommerce teams to ensure design output performs as well as it looks, balancing brand integrity with conversion goals
  • Contribute to broader creative strategy and campaign concepting, bringing both a leadership perspective and a maker’s perspective to the work

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Brand Consistency

  • Ensure visual consistency across all brand touchpoints—from campaign assets and packaging to digital, social, and retail
  • Collaborate with brand, marketing, ecommerce, and product teams to ensure design work ladders up to campaign and business objectives
  • Act as a design advocate across the organization, reinforcing the role of strong creative in building brand equity
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, production partners, and agencies to ensure work meets Momentous’ creative standards and timelines.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in graphic design or art direction, with demonstrated progression into creative leadership
  • Proven experience directly managing designers, with a track record of developing talent and building team culture
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating range across brand, campaign, digital, and marketing design
  • Background in CPG, health & wellness, or lifestyle brands strongly preferred
  • Agency or in-house brand experience required

Skills & Competencies

  • Expert-level proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign); working knowledge of Figma
  • Deep understanding of design principles, typography, layout, color theory, and brand systems
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple workstreams simultaneously without losing attention to detail
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain design systems, style guides, and templates that scale across a growing organization
  • Clear, confident communicator who can present creative rationale and earn trust across functions
  • Comfortable operating at both the strategic level (defining systems and direction) and the execution level (opening the file and doing the work yourself)

Attributes

  • Genuinely passionate about human performance, wellness, and what Momentous stands for
  • High craft standards and low ego
  • Thrives in a fast-moving environment where quality and speed must coexist
  • Detail-oriented without losing sight of the bigger creative picture
  • Values relationships and considers fostering them an integral part of the job

  • Competitive cash compensation plus employee stock options

As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
