We’re seeking a dynamic and growth-minded leader to join us in the role of Payroll Senior Lead - which is equivalent to a Senior Manager level - to help shape and lead payroll strategy while ensuring seamless, compliant, and efficient processes. You’ll play a key role in our team, collaborating closely with other incredible and talented individuals. About This Role at Momentum
As a Payroll Senior Lead on our Payroll team at Momentum, your days will be dynamic and filled with opportunities to contribute to the smooth and efficient management of our payroll processes. Here’s a glimpse into what your overall responsibilities might look like:
- Start your day by reviewing detailed payroll reports and analyzing key performance metrics, leveraging your deep expertise to ensure accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency across all payroll functions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as People & Culture, Finance, and Operations to address complex payroll challenges, identify long-term solutions, and ensure alignment with broader organizational goals and compliance standards.
- Join senior leadership in strategic planning sessions, where your insights on payroll operations will help shape the department’s direction, drive process efficiencies, and elevate the employee experience.
- Engage with key stakeholders across the organization, providing expert advice on payroll matters while fostering strong relationships to support the smooth execution of payroll across all business units.
- Oversee advanced payroll processing tasks, including tax reconciliations, termination payments, and garnishment processes, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, while continuously improving internal payroll controls and procedures.
- Stay ahead of industry trends and legislative changes by monitoring payroll regulations, proactively auditing internal processes, and adjusting policies to maintain compliance and operational excellence.
- Leverage your experience to produce strategic payroll reports for senior leadership, translating complex data into actionable insights that inform key business decisions and drive process improvements.
- Mentor and guide the payroll team, partners, and stakeholders, leading process improvement initiatives and sharing your knowledge to enhance the team’s overall performance and efficiency.
- Lead key projects related to payroll system enhancements, audits, and cross-functional initiatives, using your extensive background to drive impactful results and ensure continuous innovation and operational success.
- Plan for upcoming payroll cycles and system upgrades, aligning your team on priorities and strategies to maintain seamless operations while driving innovation and improving processes within Momentum’s payroll operations.
Qualifications
We’re looking for someone who:
- Holds a Bachelor’s degree, ideally in Business, Accounting, or a related field. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
- Proven expertise in payroll operations, with experience leading complex payroll processes for multi-entity organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement process improvements, system enhancements, and strategic initiatives to optimize payroll efficiency.
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll regulations, compliance, and audit processes, with UK or other international payroll experience being advantageous.
- Experience with payroll systems such as Workday and ADP is preferred, including configuration, troubleshooting, and optimization to meet organizational needs.
- Ability to influence and collaborate across departments, working effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with a proven ability to guide and support a high-performing payroll team.
- Demonstrated excellence in preparing detailed payroll reports, conducting audits, and analyzing payroll data to drive strategic business decisions.
- Excels in effective communication, confidently interacting with stakeholders at all levels to drive outcomes and resolve issues.
- Strong analytical skills and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with attention to detail in managing complex and highly repetitive tasks.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, while navigating ambiguity and remaining agile.
When considering experience for this role, we typically find a great fit with candidates who have a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in senior payroll positions, demonstrating a strong track record in managing complex payroll operations and driving impactful organizational results. Additionally, experience in a holding company and/or in a start-up environment is a definite plus.

The base salary range for this position may vary based on location. Actual compensation will be determined by role, level, and location, considering additional factors such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. For roles eligible for remote work, the base salary is tailored to the designated work location. In addition to the base salary, candidates may be eligible to receive a discretionary annual bonus, determined based on both the company's business performance and individual contributions. The People & Culture team will provide specific details during the hiring process.
