The Job: Data Engineer, IT

We’re seeking a Data Engineer to design, build, and optimize scalable data platforms and pipelines that power decision-making across MFSG. You will architect and maintain data solutions in AWS, ensuring high-quality, secure, and reliable data for analytics, AI/BI projects, and financial services operations.

This role is ideal for someone with strong cloud engineering expertise, hands-on Python and SQL skills, and a background in data integration across complex business domains.

What You’ll Do:

Data Platform & Architecture

  • Enhance and expand the data platform by integrating structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data sources.
  • Design reporting data structures, ensuring alignment with enterprise data architecture guidelines.
  • Develop scalable and extensible data platforms to support collection, storage, modeling, and analysis of massive data sets.
  • Create tactical solutions to achieve long-term data management roadmaps and enterprise objectives.

AWS Data Engineering

  • Design and implement data pipelines using AWS Glue, Lambda, Kinesis, S3, and Redshift.
  • Build and manage robust ETL processes for data extraction, transformation, and loading.
  • Implement scalable data lake solutions on AWS to handle streaming and batch data.
  • Optimize workflows and storage solutions for both cost and performance.
  • Apply data security best practices on AWS, including access control, encryption, and compliance.

Analytics & Business Enablement

  • Support AI, BI, and Data Hub projects by ensuring high-quality and accessible data.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Drive projects merging digital and transactional data for advanced analytics and visualization.
  • Develop data warehousing solutions in Redshift, Postgres, SQL Server, or Snowflake for enterprise-level analysis.
  • Support BI reporting across tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, and SSRS.

Integration & Governance

  • Build and maintain web services (SOAP, XML, WSDL, UDDI) to support system integrations.
  • Establish data quality frameworks and governance processes for sourcing and managing enterprise data.
  • Create and maintain documentation for infrastructure, pipelines, and ETL workflows.

What You’ll Bring to the Table

  • Technical Expertise:

    • Strong SQL skills and hands-on programming experience with Python (Pandas, Numpy).
    • Proven experience designing pipelines and data lakes in AWS (Glue, S3, Kinesis, Lambda, Redshift).
    • Familiarity with data hubs, AI/BI projects, and cloud-based ETL workflows.
    • Experience with SQL Server/SSIS and exposure to NoSQL (JSON, XML, AVRO, Parquet).
    • Knowledge of Snowflake, Postgres, or other cloud-based data warehouses.
  • Analytics & BI Tools:

    • Proficiency in BI visualization tools such as Power BI (preferred), Tableau, Qlik, and SSRS.
    • Experience analyzing and visualizing large datasets for advanced decision-making.
  • Business Domain Knowledge:

    • Functional knowledge of financial services products (installment loans, payday loans) and data domains (underwriting, collections, promotions, call center, fraud).

  • Collaboration & Problem-Solving:

    • Strong ability to work cross-functionally with IT, data science, and business teams.
    • Skilled at balancing long-term architecture goals with tactical business needs.
    • Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Education + Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related technical field required; Master’s preferred.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in Data Engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience in data analysis, modeling, and data management.
  • Experience in AI, BI, and data lake/data hub projects.
  • Proven background in cloud-first data environments (AWS).
