The Job: Data Engineer, Card Products

We’re seeking a Data Engineer specializing in Card Products to design, build, and optimize data frameworks that power insights across our card portfolio. You’ll ensure transaction data, customer behavior metrics, fraud indicators, and operational performance data are accurate, scalable, and readily available for advanced analytics and reporting.

This is a critical role within our Data Engineering team, requiring strong technical expertise, a deep understanding of data platforms, and the ability to collaborate with Data Scientists, Product Managers, and cross-functional partners.

What You’ll Do:

Data Architecture & Engineering

  • Design reporting data structures and ensure projects conform to architecture guidelines.
  • Enhance and expand data lake platforms to integrate both structured and unstructured data.
  • Develop scalable Big Data platforms to support the collection, storage, modeling, and analysis of massive datasets.
  • Deliver both short-term tactical solutions and long-term strategic architecture standards.

Analytics & Advanced Insights

  • Drive projects that merge digital and transactional data to support advanced analytics and fraud detection.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality, timely, and reliable data for decision-making.
  • Continuously evaluate and adopt new Big Data technologies and best practices to strengthen insights and service offerings.

Integration & Delivery

  • Support enterprise application rollouts by connecting with vendors and providers to select products and services.
  • Ensure successful integration of data pipelines with cloud technologies such as Azure, ADF, Synapse, and Databricks.
  • Develop and optimize workflows for efficient data ingestion, transformation, and analysis.

What You’ll Bring to the Table

  • Technical Expertise: Strong experience with SQL and one additional programming language (Python, .NET, or Java). Skilled at using Apache Spark, Databricks, or Snowflake for data engineering.
  • Cloud & Big Data: Proven experience building data lakes and pipelines in cloud platforms (Azure, ADF, Synapse, Databricks). Experience parsing NoSQL file formats (JSON, XML, AVRO, Parquet).
  • Analytics Tools: Exposure to BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Qlik, or SSRS. Strong Python scripting skills (Pandas, Numpy).
  • Financial Services Knowledge: Familiarity with consumer lending and card-related domains (loans, underwriting, collections, fraud, promotions, call center data).
  • Problem Solving & Collaboration: Strong analytical skills, ability to work independently, and proven success in cross-functional collaboration.
  • Communication: Skilled at translating complex data concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Education + Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field required; Master’s preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in Data Engineering/Analytics, including at least 1 year in Digital Analytics.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in data analysis, modeling, and management.
  • Experience building web services and integrating with data-driven applications is an asset.
