The Job: Sr. Director of Data Engineering
As Sr. Director of Data Engineering, you will lead the enterprise-wide data engineering function, ensuring that all data, metrics, and operational performance data are accurate, timely, and accessible. You will drive the strategy, execution, and governance of data engineering, leading a high-performing team while collaborating across the business to deliver scalable and reliable data solutions.

What You’ll Do

  • Build, lead, and mentor the global data engineering team (onshore and offshore)

  • Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to insource data, create reusable data products, and ensure accessibility

  • Refine and prioritize data engineering projects that align with enterprise needs

  • Develop and own the data processing framework and delivery of securitization processes

  • Drive execution of the enterprise single source of truth framework

  • Document pipelines, enforce SOPs, and establish robust controls and monitoring

  • Partner with technology teams to maintain optimal data history within transactional systems

  • Complete migration of data lake, pipelines, and tooling to Snowflake

  • Evaluate and engage external vendors for tooling, services, or staff augmentation

  • Collaborate on establishing enterprise data governance processes and standards

  • Ensure timely, high-quality delivery of data products that enable analytics, reporting, and operational decisions

What You’ll Bring to the Table

  • Strategic leadership with proven ability to manage and scale large initiatives and teams

  • Deep expertise in distributed data ecosystems such as Apache Spark (Databricks), Hadoop, or Snowflake, including cluster optimization techniques

  • Strong data modeling experience (e.g., Kimball dimensional modeling, Data Vault)

  • Experience building metadata-driven ELT frameworks, engineering frameworks for data processing, and data quality controls

  • Familiarity with cloud-based data integration services (e.g., Azure Function Apps, AWS Lambda, Step Functions)

  • Strong programming background (Python, Java, .NET) with advanced SQL skills

  • Knowledge of orchestrator tools such as ADF, AWS Glue, or Apache Airflow

  • Experience with streaming platforms (Apache Kafka, NiFi, Azure Event Hubs)

  • Skilled in CI/CD pipeline management for data environments

  • Understanding of API protocols for data extraction and ingestion

  • Ability to implement data governance blueprints, lifecycle management, security posture, and data stewardship

  • Functional knowledge of financial instruments (installment loans, payday loans, underwriting, collections, fraud, promotions, call center data)

  • Strong communication skills to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Education + Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (Master’s preferred)

  • 15+ years of experience in data strategy, architecture, governance, and engineering

  • 7+ years hands-on experience in distributed data ecosystems and frameworks

  • 5+ years of experience developing and managing teams

  • Experience with analytics and BI tools such as Jupyter, Tableau, or Sigma

  • Direct experience with Snowflake strongly preferred

  • Familiarity with compliance, encryption, authentication/authorization, and data masking techniques
