⭐ Our EU team

Monzo Europe is an Irish-based subsidiary of the Monzo Group which will, upon authorisation, be the base for Monzo’s expansion as a bank into the European Union. We are building a new and exciting financial institution focused on providing innovative and customer-centric banking services across the EU.

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Risk Assurance Manager to join our Enterprise Risk Management team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing independent second-line assurance over the design and effectiveness of the bank’s risk management framework, controls and processes. You will help ensure that key risks are being effectively managed in line with regulatory expectations, internal policies, and our risk appetite. This role will report to the Head of Enterprise Risk Management, Monzo EU.

🔑 You’ll play a key role by...

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute comprehensive risk assurance activities, including effectiveness reviews, to ensure the EU-wide implementation and adherence to the enterprise risk framework
  • Conduct thorough risk and control identification and testing to evaluate the design and operational effectiveness of mitigation measures
  • Perform targeted thematic reviews on specific risk areas (eg. financial, conduct, compliance, financial crime, strategic risk etc.) and processes to provide in-depth assurance over design adequacy and operating effectiveness
  • Identify areas for improvement within the risk management framework and control environment, recommending practical and impactful solutions
  • Proactively engage with business and risk stakeholders to understand their operations and risk profiles, fostering a collaborative risk management culture
  • Contribute to the annual risk assurance plan and deliver assurance activities, providing insightful feedback and tracking remediation efforts, while staying informed of relevant regulations and best practices
  • Develop and maintain the second line risk assurance methodology, testing procedures and evidence standards in alignment with our Risk Management Framework
  • Collaborate closely with first line teams and other control functions (eg. Internal Audit) while maintaining appropriate independence
  • Contribute to risk governance through reporting to management committees, including thematic insights and trends from assurance activities
  • Participate in the development of risk culture, awareness, and training across the organisation

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You have a strong background in risk assurance, internal audit, or risk management, ideally with experience navigating the European regulatory landscape. Experience in banking is a plus!
  • You possess a deep understanding of risk assurance and management frameworks, methodologies, and best practices, and can apply this knowledge in a practical setting
  • You have a strong understanding of risk and control frameworks (e.g., COSO, etc) and regulatory expectations for second-line risk oversight
  • You have a proven ability to plan, coordinate, and execute various risk assurance activities, including effectiveness reviews and thematic deep dives, with clear articulation of findings and root cause analysis
  • You are skilled in the hands-on identification and testing of risks and controls, with a keen eye for detail and potential weaknesses
  • You have a track record of identifying areas for improvement within risk management frameworks and recommending practical, effective solutions
  • You combine excellent analytical, problem-solving, and investigative skills with strong written and verbal communication abilities to clearly articulate findings and recommendations to diverse stakeholders
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to challenge constructively and influence stakeholders at all levels

Not ticking every box? That’s totally okay! Studies show that women and people of colour might hesitate to apply unless they meet every single requirement. At Monzo, we’re dedicated to creating a diverse and welcoming team. If you’re passionate about this role and keen to learn and grow with us, we encourage you to apply— even if you don’t have everything that's listed just yet. Drop us your application, we’d love to hear from you!

It'll help us see how different groups progress through our hiring process, and where we need to make improvements to be more inclusive. If you choose to fill it out, all of the information you give us is:

  • Voluntary. And we've included a "prefer not to say" option for every question. It'd be helpful if you still fill out the survey even if you choose "prefer not to say" for every question, as it's useful for us to understand & record this. We won't know if you choose to fill this survey in or not.
