⭐ Our Finance team

Monzo is looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Financial Controller to lead our core controllership and reporting activities for our European business as we expand into the EU. This is a key leadership role with real growth, working closely with the EU CFO and partnering with the Group Financial Controller to deliver high-quality financial reporting, strong financial governance, and scalable processes in support of our fast-growing, tech-driven EU expansion.

You'll be responsible for managing our EU financial control environment, overseeing statutory reporting, leading the month-end close and audit process, and ensuring our finance systems, policies and processes are ready to scale with Monzo’s growth. You’ll build a high-performing team outsourced from the UK to the EU, and work cross-functionally with teams across Finance, Risk, Product and Engineering.

We’re looking for someone with strong experience in a financial controller role within a retail bank or financial services firm, combining deep technical accounting expertise with a hands-on, delivery-focused mindset. You'll thrive in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment and be passionate about building a world-class Finance function that underpins Monzo’s mission to make money work for everyone.

🔑 You’ll play a key role by...

  • Owning all aspects of financial control for Monzo’s EU operations, including financial close, audit and statutory accounts.
  • Ensuring a robust, scalable control environment with a focus on automation, data integrity, and process efficiency.
  • Owning the end-to-end delivery of EU entity financial statements and monthly management reporting to the EU CFO and Board.
  • Collaborating closely with the Group Financial Controller to ensure alignment on accounting policy, consolidation, and internal reporting across entities.
  • Developing and refining the EU’s Finance operating model in line with growth, complexity, and regulatory obligations.
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, external auditors and advisors.
  • Leading and developing a small team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, learning, and collaboration.
  • Contributing to strategic projects including systems implementations, process redesign, and Monzo’s readiness for future capital markets events (e.g. IPO).
  • Supporting financial planning and analysis efforts by ensuring accurate and timely data feeds between accounting and forecasting tools.
  • Drive continuous improvement in reporting, reconciliations, and controls using modern finance tools and methodologies.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You have significant experience in a financial controller role within a retail bank or financial services firm.
  • You have strong technical accounting knowledge (IFRS) and experience managing statutory audits.
  • You have an understanding of regulatory reporting and the UK/EU banking supervisory framework.
  • You have experience operating in multi-entity or cross-border structures.
  • You have proven ability to improve finance processes and controls, with a data-first, automation-led approach.
  • You have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including engagement with auditors, regulators, and senior leadership.
  • Are adaptability and resilience in fast-paced, tech-led, and agile environments.
  • Bonus: Experience with banking license oversight, capital adequacy, IPO-readiness, or finance systems transformation.

Not ticking every box? That’s totally okay! Studies show that women and people of colour might hesitate to apply unless they meet every single requirement. At Monzo, we’re dedicated to creating a diverse and welcoming team. If you’re passionate about this role and keen to learn and grow with us, we encourage you to apply— even if you don’t have everything that's listed just yet.
