⭐Our Risk & Compliance team

We’re looking for a pragmatic, knowledgeable and collaborative person to expand data protection at Monzo. As Monzo scales with new customers, new products and innovative technology, we work to find a skillful balance between meeting our regulatory and ethical obligations and creating innovative, customer-centric solutions to our users' everyday financial needs.

At Monzo we use the three lines of defence approach to manage our risks. We have a team of Data Protection Managers and Analysts in our first line data protection team, who provide operational and BAU support to the rest of the business. The Data Protection Oversight Manager will sit in the second line providing risk and compliance challenge and oversight, and will report to the Director of Compliance & Conduct Risk, EU and work closely with the Data Protection colleagues in the UK. This role is an opportunity to join a growing second line team that is working to understand, manage and mitigate privacy risks across Monzo as it expands into new jurisdictions. 

🔑You’ll play a key role by...

  • Bringing a fresh perspective and experience to managing data protection risks at a fast growing international bank and provide advice and oversight across European aspects of data protection at Monzo 
  • Working with the first line data protection team to identify and manage risks through data protection impact assessments
  • Collaborating with our in-house data protection legal 
  • Helping build privacy into our customer-first culture 
  • Producing high-quality and data-driven risk reporting to allow our Executives and Board to understand and act on our data protection risks
  • Playing a key role in supporting Monzo’s relationship with its data protection Supervisory Authorities
  • On occasion, deputising for the Director of Compliance & Conduct Risk, EU at Committees when required
  • Assisting compliance assurance teams in reviewing Data Protection elements of process to identify areas for improvement, providing advice and guidance and tracking remediation items to closure
  • Keeping up to date with evolving data protection regulations, identifying and communicating regulatory changes to stakeholders

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • Have experience of the privacy challenges in fast growing international companies and how to solve for them. This could be working in a fast growth company, international bank or in a consultant role supporting tech companies with data privacy  
  • Can demonstrate knowledge of the GDPR through professional qualification such as the Professional Certificate in Data Protection, IAPP CIPP/E, etc.; knowledge of domestic EU Member State data protection law is also desirable 
  • Have some experience of working with or in a second line role, and an understanding of effective risk management and governance that goes hand in hand
  • Love working with and getting to know teams across the company, thrive on knowledge sharing and working through problems together, early, and with solutions in mind
  • Are a good communicator, both written and verbal, and take pride in your tone of voice and consider yourself a great influencer 
  • Are a self-starter and prefer to work through ambiguous problems with an end goal in mind, using your initiative to get you there. You’ll have run end-to-end projects and delivered tangible improvements
  • Are willing to push yourself out of your comfort zone and love continuous learning
  • Are capable and enthusiastic about developing, leading and promoting a culture of data privacy
  • Are comfortable working in a matrix structure. 
  • Are based in Ireland

💰€65,000 - €80,000 ➕share options.

📍This role will have a hybrid working model, based in our Dublin office 2 - 3 days a week.

⏰We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, and at times that suit you and your team. 

🏝 Annual Leave - 34 days including public holidays (24 holiday days + 10 public holidays)

📚€1,200 learning budget each year to use on books, training courses and conferences.
