Hear from our UK team about what it's like working at Monzo

📍London, Cardiff or Distributed | 💰 from £93,500 + Benefits

About our Financial Risk  Team:

You'll be joining our Financial Risk team, dedicated to Monzo's financial safety. Our core purpose is to ensure the bank remains financially resilient as we scale, no matter the economic environment. We assess Monzo's capital, liquidity, and overall balance sheet, providing the critical, data-driven analysis that informs our capital requirements and strategic planning.

As we grow our product offerings and expand into new jurisdictions, understanding our resilience to financial shocks is more important than ever, and this is where your role comes in. You will be responsible for defining, building, and maintaining the models that project the impact of severe but plausible scenarios across our entire business. Your work will directly inform our strategic planning, capital adequacy (ICAAP), and financial sustainability (Recovery Planning), ensuring Monzo remains safe and sustainable as we scale. You'll be part of a collaborative team, working with stakeholders across the bank to solve complex challenges and safeguard Monzo's future.

🔑 What you'll be working on...

As a Senior Manager for Stress Testing, you'll initially lead the development and maintenance of the full lifecycle of our stress testing framework. This framework will be used to deliver prudential stress testing to support the production of the ICAAP, Recovery Plan and understanding the resilience of our balance sheet and risk management strategies. Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Framework Development: Lead the design, development, documentation, and continuous improvement of Monzo's end-to-end stress testing framework for capital, and recovery planning.
  • Model Build & Definition: Define and build a suite of sophisticated stress testing models to project the impact of various scenarios on our P&L, Balance Sheet, capital adequacy (e.g., CET1 ratio, leverage ratio), and liquidity position (e.g., LCR, NSFR).
  • International Scalability: Ensure the framework is scalable and adaptable, capable of incorporating new products, business lines, and our international operations (e.g. EU, US).
  • Regulatory & Senior Management Reporting: Partner with the wider Prudential delivery team by developing the quantitative analysis, toolkit, and narrative required for our regulatory submissions (PRA111) and internal reporting.
  • Process Improvement: Work closely with Data, Treasury, Borrowing, and Finance teams to automate and enhance our stress testing data, modelling, and reporting infrastructure.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if...

  • You have significant, hands-on experience in developing, managing, and documenting financial stress testing frameworks (capital or liquidity) within a regulated bank.
  • You have a deep knowledge of Financial Risk, ICAAP and Recovery Planning and how stress testing integrates with these deliverables;
  • You should be confident analysing P&L and balance sheet data and be able to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely to senior stakeholders.
  • You have robust knowledge and examples of utilising SQL and Python to build and deliver stress testing and analytics. This will be tested via case study;
  • You should have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience;
  • You have the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. You're excited by the challenge of building a critical new capability from scratch.

Not ticking every box? That’s totally okay! Studies show that women and people of colour might hesitate to apply unless they meet every single requirement. At Monzo, we’re dedicated to creating a diverse and welcoming team. If you’re passionate about this role and keen to learn and grow with us, we encourage you to apply— even if you don’t have everything that's listed just yet. Drop us your application, we’d love to hear from you!

Our goal at Monzo is to make money work for everyone. To do that, working at Monzo must work for everyone. We want to create an equitable, engaged and innovative workplace which gives people from all backgrounds the support they need to thrive and grow.

Making Monzo work for everyone starts right at the beginning of every Monzonaut's journey: when they apply to work here. This demographic survey will help us better understand the people who apply to work at Monzo. It'll help us see how different groups progress through our hiring process, and where we need to make improvements to be more inclusive. If you choose to fill it out, all of the information you give us is:

  • Voluntary. And we've included a "prefer not to say" option for every question. It'd be helpful if you still fill out the survey even if you choose "prefer not to say" for every question, as it's useful for us to understand & record this. We won't know if you choose to fill this survey in or not.
  • Anonymous to Monzo. We can't tie your responses to you and they won't make a difference to the outcome of your application. We'll only use grouped responses for equal opportunities monitoring in our hiring process.
