📍London/Cardiff/UK Remote | £59,500 - £80,500 + Benefits ✨| ℹ️ 12 Month Fixed-Term Contract

Our Financial Crime team ⭐

Our Financial Crime Collective helps keep Monzo and our customers safe by building effective, proportionate controls that protect against financial crime while delivering great customer outcomes.

We’re looking for a Senior Financial Crime Analyst to join our Actions Squad. You’ll be a subject matter expert across key financial crime controls, taking ownership of complex problems and helping us continuously improve how our controls operate across both Monzo Bank Limited (MBL) and Monzo Bank Europe (MBEU).

This is a role with plenty of ownership and cross-functional exposure. You’ll work closely with teams across Financial Crime, Operations, Product and Engineering, using data and your financial crime expertise to identify risks, strengthen controls and shape longer-term improvements.

🔑 You’ll play a key role by...

  • Owning our global risk controls for Exit & Defunds, Law Enforcement and Acceptable Use Standard, with end-to-end oversight of BAU performance across MBL and MBEU.
  • Developing and improving control documentation and standards, balancing financial crime risk, operational efficiency and customer experience.
  • Using data and trend analysis to monitor control effectiveness, identify emerging threats and spot opportunities to strengthen our controls.
  • Making sure we have appropriate financial crime control coverage as Monzo launches new products and expands into new areas.
  • Identifying and prioritising material risks, escalating these clearly to leadership alongside practical, evidence-based recommendations.
  • Owning the investigation and remediation of incidents within your control areas and partnering with other Control Owners to resolve high-impact issues.
  • Acting as a domain expert for your areas, providing technical guidance, sharing knowledge and helping build capability across the wider Financial Crime Collective.
  • Leading cross-functional initiatives across Product, Operations and Engineering, building shared understanding and influencing teams towards compliant and customer-focused solutions.
  • Taking on Nominated Approver and Financial Crime Floater responsibilities.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You have strong financial crime and regulatory compliance expertise and are comfortable acting as a subject matter expert within your domain.
  • You’re confident using data to understand control performance, identify weaknesses and make evidence-based recommendations — experience with tools such as Looker would be useful.
  • You’re comfortable independently assessing and prioritising complex financial crime risks, making proportionate decisions and escalating material issues when needed.
  • You communicate clearly and can adapt your approach for different audiences, from operational and technical teams through to senior leaders.
  • You’re great at working cross-functionally and can build strong relationships across teams such as Product, Operations and Engineering to influence outcomes without relying on formal authority.
  • You’re comfortable managing a complex portfolio and competing priorities, while maintaining a high bar for quality and proactively identifying opportunities to improve how we work.

🙌 What’s in it for you

💰 £59,500 - £80,500

ℹ️ Please note this will be a 12 month fixed-term-contract

📍This role can be based in our London office, but we're open to distributed working within the UK (with ad hoc meetings in London)

⏰ We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, and at times that suit you and your team.

📚 £1,000 learning budget each year to use on books, training courses and conferences.

🏡 We will set you up to work from home; all employees are given Macbooks and for fully remote workers we will provide extra support for your work-from-home setup.

Our goal at Monzo is to make money work for everyone. To do that, working at Monzo must work for everyone. We want to create an equitable, engaged and innovative workplace which gives people from all backgrounds the support they need to thrive and grow.

Making Monzo work for everyone starts right at the beginning of every Monzonaut's journey: when they apply to work here. This demographic survey will help us better understand the people who apply to work at Monzo. It'll help us see how different groups progress through our hiring process, and where we need to make improvements to be more inclusive. If you choose to fill it out, all of the information you give us is:

  • Voluntary. And we've included a "prefer not to say" option for every question. It'd be helpful if you still fill out the survey even if you choose "prefer not to say" for every question, as it's useful for us to understand & record this. We won't know if you choose to fill this survey in or not.
  • Anonymous to Monzo. We can't tie your responses to you and they won't make a difference to the outcome of your application. We'll only use grouped responses for equal opportunities monitoring in our hiring process.
