Chief Innovation Officer

Overview

Moonshot builds the power infrastructure that makes AI possible. Our electrical distribution equipment goes into the largest AI datacenter deployments in the country; our customers include the companies building the next generation of AI compute. We are in hypergrowth, moving into a purpose-built manufacturing campus near Dallas.

The Chief Innovation Officer is the executive responsible for Moonshot's technology direction, the technology leadership team, and the company's technology posture as seen by the board, customers, and auditors. This is not a head-of-IT seat, not a head-of-AI seat, and not a software development seat. Those functions are run by directors who report to the CIO. The CIO sets the multi-year technology strategy, sits at the executive table on capital and growth decisions, and develops the leaders who run the day-to-day. The role reports to the Chief Operating Officer and partners directly with the CEO, CFO, and the rest of the executive team.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Technology Vision and Multi-Year Strategy: Define how Moonshot's technology investments compound over the next three to five years. Set platform-level direction for the systems that run the company and shape the technology posture customers and auditors evaluate. Own the build, buy, and partner decisions for major capabilities. Sequence investment against business impact, not against what is loudest.
  2. Executive Partnership: Sit on the executive team alongside the CEO, COO, and CFO. Bring technology-informed input to capital planning, capacity planning, M&A diligence, customer commitments, and the company's annual and long-range plans. Translate technology constraints into business decisions the rest of the executive team can act on.
  3. Technology Organization and Leadership Development: Design and evolve the organization beneath the CTO seat. Hire, develop, and hold accountable the directors who run IT and cybersecurity, software and technology development, and applied AI. Coach those leaders in their own evolution from operators to executives. Build succession depth so no function, including the CTO seat, is a single point of failure.
  4. Enterprise Risk and Governance: Own the company's technology risk posture as presented to the board, strategic customers, auditors, and insurers. Cybersecurity posture, IT controls framework, data governance, and AI governance sit here at the policy and oversight level. Hold the directors accountable for execution.
  5. Strategic Investment and Vendor Portfolio: Approve the major technology investments and enterprise vendor relationships. Set the framework for how Moonshot evaluates, contracts, and exits platforms. Steward the technology budget across IT, AI, software, and technology development as a single portfolio rather than as separate line items.
  6. External Representation: Represent Moonshot's technology to the board, strategic customers, industry partners, and the broader market. Customers in the AI infrastructure space ask hard questions about supply chain visibility, security, and engineering rigor; the CTO is the executive who answers them and who is credible doing it.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • 15+ years in progressive technology leadership, including time as a sitting CTO, CIO, or equivalent executive at a company of meaningful scale
  • Demonstrated track record operating through a director-tier leadership team, not as a player-coach or hands-on builder
  • Time at an executive table on company-level decisions: capital, capacity, M&A, customer commitments
  • History representing technology to a board, strategic customers, or external auditors
  • Capital-intensive manufacturing, industrial, or asset-heavy experience strongly preferred; SaaS-only or pure-software backgrounds will not translate
  • Prior experience in a hypergrowth phase where technology had to scale ahead of the business

Skills:

  • Multi-year technology strategy: setting direction, sequencing investment, communicating tradeoffs to non-technical executives and to the board
  • Org design and leadership development at the director-and-above level
  • Enterprise risk and governance fluency: cybersecurity posture, IT controls framework, data and AI governance at the level required by enterprise customers and outside auditors
  • Capital allocation and vendor portfolio management across enterprise platforms
  • Executive presence: credible across a boardroom, a customer C-suite, and a manufacturing floor

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience
  • Advanced degree (MBA, MS) is a plus but not required

Why Moonshot?

  • Mission and Vision: Moonshot's ambition is to become the most AI-advanced electrical equipment manufacturer in the world. We build the equipment that powers AI, and we are turning AI inward to run the company that powers AI. The CIO seat owns how that happens.
  • Executive Impact: This is a true executive seat, not a glorified head-of-IT role. You will partner directly with the CEO and COO on capital, capacity, and growth decisions and represent the company's technology posture to the board and to strategic customers.
  • AI Datacenter Revolution: Moonshot's customers are the companies building the next generation of AI compute. You will operate at the intersection of physical AI infrastructure (what we build) and applied AI (how we run). Few CTO/CIO seats give you both at once.
  • Build the Function from the Right Altitude: You are inheriting a technology organization with a real foundation and real work still left to design. IT and cybersecurity have leadership and momentum. How you shape software and technology development, and how you structure AI across the organization, is yours to define. The company is scaling rapidly; the systems, teams, and capabilities you build need to be operational and durable now, not eventually. Your job is to lead through great leaders, build where the org needs building, and create a technology organization that performs at the speed the business demands.
