Core Academy Advisor
The Core Academy Advisor effectively advises and supports students in the Core Academy. The Core Academy Advisor motivates students to achieve their full attendance, academic, and graduation requirements, as well as other goals identified.
**Michigan Residency Required**
Responsibilities
- Review and understand student histories.
- Assist students and parents in understanding the Core Academy program and requirements.
- Maintain effective and timely communication with Michigan Online School staff and parents on student progress, attendance, course progress and any concerns.
- Work with school leadership to develop plans to remove barriers that impact student progress toward successful completion of Core Academy program requirements.
- Complete home visits as required.
- Constant, effective, two-way communication with Core Academy students via phone, text, email, etc.
- Strong progress monitoring for Core Academy students.
- Monitor graduation planning with school counselors for Core Academy students.
- Share and provision resources to staff and Core Academy students and parents.
- Provide access to student success.
- Diligently track all work for grant reporting.
- Other duties as assigned
Skills/Qualifications
- Bachelors’ degree
- Michigan Residency Required
- Prior experience working with a diverse population
- Strong working knowledge of Michigan Merit Curriculum graduation requirements
- Proficiency in computer applications, including Google Docs, MS Office Suite, e-mail, and internet applications
- Ability to learn new technologies and acquire new skills through independent study, professional training, and from more senior team members
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills that always reflect professionalism and tact
- Strong ability to gather, analyze, and interpret student data to make sound decisions
- Ability to problem solve in a thoughtful and analytic manner
- Ability to handle confidential information responsibly and exhibit sound judgment while maintaining that confidentiality
- Ability to motivate students.
- Ability to understand and remove barriers for students and families.
- Ability to manage difficult or emotional client situations
- Ability to and willingness to work outside school hours
- Ability to pass federal, state and local background checks
