What You’ll Accomplish
- Engage and Educate Audiences: Present 2–4 Planetarium programs daily, including live and pre-recorded astronomy-themed shows, ensuring engaging and educational experiences for visitors of all ages.
- Master Planetarium Technology: Learn to operate state-of-the-art equipment, including the Zeiss Starmaster ZMP star projector and Digistar 7 software, performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Develop Communication Skills: Present complex astronomy topics in accessible and interactive ways, catering to diverse audiences such as families, school groups, and the general public.
- Support Guest Experiences: Assist with ushering duties, ticket-taking, and answering visitor questions to enhance the overall Planetarium experience.
- Collaborate on Projects: Contribute to Planetarium initiatives, including science-education projects, professional development activities, and evening programs such as music or arts/technology events.
What We’re Looking For
- Public Speaking and Communication: Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to engage large, diverse audiences effectively.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with computer technology and audio-visual equipment, demonstrating the ability to learn and operate Planetarium tools.
- Adaptability: Ability to explain abstract and complex topics in an easy-to-understand way for various audiences.
- Passion for Astronomy and Education: Enthusiastic about astronomy and informal science education, with a strong interest in sharing this passion with others.
- Team Collaboration: Works well with others to achieve program goals and deliver exceptional visitor experiences.
- Customer Service Orientation: Exhibits professionalism and a friendly demeanor when interacting with visitors and colleagues.
Where/When You’ll Work
- Sunday-Thursday or Wednesday-Saturday
- Onsite; 28 hours max a week
