We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Human Resources Manager to oversee all HR functions for our private members’ club in New York City. This role is responsible for managing recruitment, onboarding, offboarding, benefits administration, payroll processing, employee relations, performance management, and ensuring compliance with NYC and NYS labor laws.

The HR Manager plays a critical strategic and hands-on role, partnering with leadership to align HR practices with Moss’s people strategy while fostering a positive, inclusive, and engaging workplace culture. This position is essential in creating a productive, well-organized, safe, and welcoming environment that brings Moss’s culture to life and supports a consistent and inclusive experience for employees and visitors alike.

Key responsibilities include driving workforce planning, implementing HR policies, managing employee performance, supporting career development, and ensuring adherence to all legal and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate combines strong operational expertise with a people-focused approach to cultivate engagement, retention, and employee satisfaction across the organization.

This position reports directly to the Director of Business Operations and Finance, who oversees and leads the Human Resources function.

COMPENSATION:

The salary wage for this position is $75,000 - $85,000 per year, depending on experience.

CLASSIFICATION:

This is an exempt, salaried position. In accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), you are not eligible for overtime pay. Your compensation is intended to cover all hours required to fulfill the responsibilities of your role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Manage end-to-end recruitment processes, including job postings, interviewing, selection, and onboarding of new staff through our established tech stack partners GreenHouse and ADP Work Force Now.
  • Oversee offboarding procedures ensuring smooth transitions and proper documentation along with the return of company property.
  • Partner with management to anticipate staffing needs and develop workforce plans.

Employee Relations

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee concerns, grievances, and conflicts.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and engaging workplace culture.
  • Support management in addressing performance and conduct issues professionally and legally.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Administer payroll, time-off tracking, benefits programs, and leave management (e.g., FMLA, PFL).
  • Ensure competitive and equitable compensation practices.

Compliance

  • Ensure strict compliance with federal, state (NY), and local (NYC) labor laws, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of employment law, as applicable.

Training & Development

  • Design and implement training programs for staff and management to enhance performance and professional growth.
  • Facilitate onboarding programs that support retention and engagement.

Performance Management

  • Oversee performance appraisal processes and provide guidance to management on coaching, feedback, and disciplinary actions.
  • Support the development and implementation of a structured 30-90-365 day probationary review process.

Strategy & Policy

  • Partner with leadership to develop HR strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Assist in designing, communicating, and enforcing HR policies and standards.

Record Management

  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records, HR databases, and documentation in compliance with legal and company requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3–6 years of HR experience in hospitality or private members’ clubs, preferably in NYC.
  • Strong knowledge of NYC and NYS labor laws, HR best practices, and employment regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Proactive approach to employee engagement, retention, and culture-building initiatives.
