Mission Summary

Motional is seeking a high integrity, detail-oriented and adaptable Quality Engineer to support the Operational Safety Team within our Enterprise Safety & Quality department. The Operational Safety  team oversees the execution of our autonomous driving testing, development and demonstrations. We are looking for a Safety / Quality Engineer that will support the completion of safety investigations and help in the development, implementation and continual improvement of our safety policies, processes and procedures helping ensure safety standards are maintained. As a Safety / Quality Engineer you will be responsible for improving the safety and quality of our product through rigorous safety investigations and problem solving. This role reports to our Operational Safety Manager.

A Quality Engineer at Motional:

  • Is responsible for overseeing and improving the quality of autonomous vehicle product performance and associated hardware and software components
  • You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including hardware, software, manufacturing, and safety engineering, to develop and implement quality assurance processes, conduct root cause analyses, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  •  Forms the interface between the customer and engineering for all quality related subjects

Essential Duties:

  • Conduct failure analysis and root cause investigations for software and hardware issues, implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Manages the quality landscape of Risks, Issues and Problems for both internal and externally facing programs and projects
  • Define and monitor quality metrics, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
  • Facilitating communication and actions on quality by conducting periodic quality reviews and by aligning and engaging with cross-functional teams 
  • Analyzing field feedback reports, data and information on product performance to provide insights and direction to development teams that help key product and process decision making
  • Forms the independent unbiased communication channel and link from field quality and customer experience to engineering, development and problem resolution owners
  • Formulates actions plans to address top risk, issues and problems that are quantifiable and measurable 
  • Defining, monitoring and owning product Quality KPIs and metrics
  • Support validation and verification testing of autonomous vehicle systems.
  • Providing Quality team’s risk assessment as the advocate for the customer experience in programs and projects at a across functional team level
  • Ensures achievement of all quality related milestones and deliverables to meet program / project

Qualifications:

Educational Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Technical / Specialized Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • 3+ years of experience in quality engineering, preferably in autonomous vehicle  / robotics technology companies, or automotive, aerospace industries
  • Six Sigma or equivalent problem solving qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of quality management systems (QMS) and methodologies 
  • Experience with automotive / autonomous standards (ISO 26262, IATF 16949, ASPICE. ISO21448, UL4600) 
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirement R156, R157
  • Familiarity with software validation techniques and debugging tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex technical issues.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with data analysis tools and statistical software is a plus.
  •  Ability to work in a highly ambiguous environment across multiple locations
  • Customer focused mindset

When traveling, the team members will be exposed to airports, airplanes, hotels and public transportation environments.

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors including but not limited to specific skills, experience and expertise, role location, certifications, licenses, and business needs. The estimated compensation range listed in this job posting reflects base salary only. This role may include additional forms of compensation such as a bonus or company equity. Salary Range

$115,500 - $174,500 USD
