Document Control Manager
Overview:
Motional is seeking a visionary and systems-oriented Document Control Manager to architect, evolve, and champion enterprise-wide document governance frameworks. Positioned within the Enterprise Safety & Quality Team—reporting to our Senior Quality Systems Manager—this role is central to shaping the tools, standards, and processes that support compliant and scalable information management across the organization.
We are looking for a leader who will go beyond managing existing systems—someone who thrives in complexity and ambiguity, and can build efficient, modern, and compliant documentation ecosystems from the ground up.
Primary Purpose:
As the Document Control Manager, you will:
- Own and evolve the company-wide document management vision, strategy, and roadmap.
- Design and implement scalable frameworks, workflows, and technologies that ensure data integrity, regulatory compliance (as applicable), and operational efficiency.
- Act as a cross-functional partner and advisor to business units, embedding best practices into everyday operations.
- Lead process improvement and change management initiatives to modernize how the company controls and interacts with documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Architect and optimize the enterprise Document Management System (DMS), including platform configuration, integration, and maintenance.
- Develop and institutionalize governance models, taxonomy, classification schemas, and lifecycle policies for critical business documents.
- Define and implement end-to-end workflows for document creation, version control, review, approval, and archival across business functions.
- Establish enterprise-wide standards for document quality, metadata tagging, security, and record retention.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to digitize, centralize, and automate legacy or manual documentation practices.
- Collaborate with IT, Legal, and Security teams to ensure all systems meet internal and external compliance obligations, as applicable
- Develop and maintain data dashboards and reporting frameworks to measure the effectiveness and adoption of document control strategies.
- Train and enable teams across the company in effective document management practices.
- Conduct regular audits and lead remediation efforts for gaps in documentation and/or DMS usage.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent education plus experience, in Information Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
- 6+ years of experience in document strategy, records management, or process architecture in highly regulated and/or complex environments.
- Proven track record of designing and implementing document management control systems and frameworks across large and/or multi-site organizations.
- Expertise with the DMS platform, AODocs, is highly desired; other platform experiences may include SharePoint, OpenText, 3DExperience, Siemens Teamcenter, JAMA, or Polarian.
- Familiarity with Quality Management Systems and standards (ex. ISO-9001, IATF-16949, AS-9100, ISO-13485, etc.).
- Strong proficiency in productivity and collaboration tools (ex. Google Suite, Microsoft Office, JIRA, Confluence, etc.).
- Analytical mindset with the ability to drive insights from documentation trends and usage data.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, align stakeholders, and manage change for documentation management.

Physical Demands:
This position frequently requires the employee to sit, speak, and listen. On occasion, the employee may be required to stand—sometimes for extended periods—walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, and reach with arms and hands. The employee must be able to occasionally lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

The role involves regular exposure to a variety of environments, including office settings, outdoor weather conditions, roadways, and pedestrian areas. When traveling, the employee may spend time in airports, on airplanes, in hotels, and/or on public transportation.

Salary Range
$104,000 - $139,200 USD
