AV Testing Operator - Las Vegas

Primary Purpose:

Our Autonomous Driving Test Operators serve as the “eyes and ears” on the road for the engineering teams, providing subjective feedback and objective data as they navigate various real-world driving environments to validate the Autonomous Driving features. Our Test Operators are expected to hold safety at the highest level while operating, testing, and maintaining our Autonomous Vehicle Fleet (AVs). They also have strong attention to detail, have a curious mindset while questioning the ‘why’ of things, and must be able to quickly and concisely describe their thoughts and move on to the next observation.

This role will focus on safely driving our vehicles, executing in-vehicle tests, recording test results, log data annotations and providing feedback to development teams.

 

Essential Duties:

  • Follow all safety policies and procedures while operating prototype-level Autonomous Vehicles on both defined and undefined routes, including a variety of geographic and environmental conditions.
  • Operate in-vehicle data recording computers, including start/stop recording, data marking, and minor debugging when issues arise.
  • Provide clear, accurate, and useful subjective feedback to the engineering teams on vehicle behavior observed.
  • Ensure the safe operation of our test vehicles on public roads.
  • Requires some initial travel for training and collaboration with other vehicle operators.
  • Completes accident and incident reports as needed.
  • Able to speak sufficient English in order to converse with first responders if necessary.
  • Maintains current knowledge and adherence to all Motional AD LLC operating policies, procedures, and directives.
  • Arrives to work on time for scheduled shift and with proper driving credentials on his/her/their person and is ready to work.
  • Maintains current knowledge and is in compliance with local, county, and state traffic laws.
  • Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspection, which may include but not limited to cleanliness of the Autonomous Vehicle. This includes conducting an external/internal visual inspection of the vehicle and testing all necessary equipment, operating devices, and controls.
  • Completes accident and incident reports.
  • Control and manage emergency situations according to company procedures.
  • Able to work in a team environment and operate AV with another person. Maintain cooperative behavior towards fellow team members, leads, supervisors, and managers.
  • Requires flexibility in work schedule.
  • Operate in-vehicle data recording computers, including start/stop recording, data annotations, and minor debugging when issues arise. Provide feedback to engineering teams gathered from testing.
  • Utilize JIRA/Confluence software to execute testing tickets and document historical data findings to a global audience.
  • Able to deploy and troubleshoot AV’s.
  • Control and manage emergency situations according to company procedures.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have and maintain a clean driving record for the previous 3 years, no DUIs for previous 10 years, and never be at fault in an accident that resulted in injury to any person.
  • Prior experience as an Operator/Driver for Autonomous Vehicles, including some type of internal or external training on Autonomous Vehicle technology.
  • Experience and training on providing subjective feedback on vehicle behaviors and environment.
  • Must be able to successfully complete in-house driving course/examination.
  • Local knowledge in the test city of streets, geography, and environmental features that may be challenging for Autonomous Vehicles.
  • Basic knowledge of how to navigate through a smartphone using applications to complete job duties.
  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Able to work days, nights, and weekends at any time.
  • Must be able to use company communication systems and communicate clearly and effectively both written and verbally.
  • Must be able to read a map and possess knowledge of the local area.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of driving experience.
  • Utilize JIRA/Confluence software to execute testing tickets and document historical data findings to a global audience.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of technical software that may include; Linux, Atlassian Confluence, Jira, Gitlab, and Python.
  • If you currently do not meet all qualifications, or are currently working to obtain qualifying credentials, still submit your application for review. 
  • Data Analysis experience.
  • 6 Months of NHTSA levels 2-5 Autonomous vehicle experience. 

Physical Demands

  • Ability to pass a DOT exam.
  • Able to be in a confined seated position to operate a vehicle for up to four (4) hours at a time for a total of up to ten (10) hours per day.
  • Able to stay awake and alert on shift at all times.

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors including but not limited to specific skills, experience and expertise, role location, certifications, licenses, and business needs. Salary Range

$50,000 - $59,700 USD
