Group Director, Social Strategy & Insights

Position: Full Time

Location: This position offers remote work. While we have a preference for candidates based in California, Colorado, or New York, applicants from other locations may also be considered.

OVERVIEW

Movement Strategy is looking for a Group Director, Social Strategy & Insights to lead a growing team of strategists and elevate the impact of our social and data-driven offering on one of our largest accounts. This is a senior leadership role for someone who blends social and cultural fluency, advanced data expertise, and a sharp point of view on how AI and analytics are transforming marketing.
The right candidate is equal parts strategist and data leader: able to design brand-level social strategies, interpret complex datasets, and translate them into creative, actionable recommendations. You’ll oversee a team of 8–10 strategists, scale high-performing talent, and serve as a senior partner to clients and internal leadership alike. You’ll also work closely with Group Leads and Data Leads to ensure client needs, data storytelling goals, and broader business objectives are met consistently across business units.

A BIT ABOUT US

Movement Strategy creates content and campaigns for the world’s most exciting brands. We win awards, make headlines, shatter engagement numbers and celebrate the journey along the way. It’s why companies like Netflix, Amazon, Spotify, and Intuit come to us again and again.

We’re fully remote with hubs in New York, Denver, and LA, and a presence all across the US. We believe collaboration is what takes our work from good to great, and at times, even to legendary status. We champion diverse opinions and creativity in every department, and provide professional development and learning opportunities with the goal of helping you discover your best work today, and learn how to make it even better in the future.

What You'll Do:

  • Strategic Vision & Executive Leadership:
    • Own the strategic vision for the account at large and across multiple pods, ensuring cohesion, innovation, and performance excellence.
    • Serve as the lead strategic and analytical voice in senior client engagements, shaping briefs, KPIs, and performance-driven narratives.
    • You will also shape and champion Movement’s strategic philosophy, balancing rigor, agility, and cultural insight with data-backed insight.
  • Data-Driven Planning & Innovation:
    • Set the standard for integrating social listening, analytics and cultural intelligence into strategic development.
    • Build and operationalize measurement frameworks from scratch; defining KPIs, benchmarking, forecasting, and reporting.
    • In collaboration with our data center, inform automation and dashboarding initiatives (Tableau, Looker, or equivalent) to streamline insights delivery by having an in-depth understanding of client’s data strategy
    • Evaluate and recommend new tools, methodologies, and workflows that advance agency capabilities.
  • Client Leadership & Strategic Partnership:
    • Serve as a senior strategic advisor to our most senior clients and build enduring relationships based on trust, value, and vision. Translate complex cultural, audience, and performance data into actionable and compelling strategic narratives. You will be the day-to-day strategic lead on one of the agency's largest accounts, owning the full strategic output from setting briefs and KPIs to translating performance insights into next-gen channel strategy.
  • AI and Platform Intelligence:
    • Bring practical experience with AI tools and automation, whether through trend identification, workflow enhancements, social listening, or new forms of storytelling. You will also lead platform-specific thinking across various platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts, guiding how brands show up natively on each platform.
    • Drive experimentation with new storytelling formats and predictive analytics
  • Team Leadership & Talent Development:
    • Manage, mentor, and grow a team of 8–10 strategists of varying levels. Create systems for upskilling, performance management, and long-term career development.
    • You will also lead hiring and resource planning to support account growth.
  • Cross-Functional and Cross-pod Leadership:
    • Lead account-level planning and ensure all pod strategies ladder up to the larger vision in alignment with client needs.
    • Act as the strategic integrator across departments, ensuring insights flow seamlessly between research, data, creative, and paid media.
    • Partner with creative teams to translate insights into powerful, platform-native brand work.

Who You Are:

  • Experience: 10+ years in strategy, analytics, and social leadership, ideally in a fast-paced agency setting. Proven success leading strategy teams of 6+ across multiple accounts.
  • Data Skills: You are proficient in working with raw data. A systems thinker who can connect dots across clients, channels, and teams. Hands-on with data aggregation, visualization, and analytics tools (Tableau, Funnel.io, Snowflake, SQL, GWI, Brandwatch, RivalIQ). Comfortable with data cleaning, reporting, and workflow optimization.
  • Storytelling with Data: Adept at transforming complex cultural and performance data into clear, actionable insights for both creative teams and executive-level clients.

  • Thought Leadership: A passion for staying at the forefront of social trends and digital advancements, regularly sharing insights with clients and teams. You are a strategic thought leader for clients, confidently leading conversations on performance, platform shifts, and innovation.

IDEAL QUALITIES

  • High energy, passionate, curious, confident, and tenacious in learning, coupled with the ability to navigate the nuances of different client teams.
  • Must communicate quickly and accurately, think quickly or improvise, and present confidently.
  • Familiarity with SQL and comfortable working in spreadsheets.
  • Should be a nimble self-starter and quickly adjust to internal and external teams in an ever-changing environment; identify opportunity with bias to action.
  • You’re proactive and naturally curious about the digital and social space, constantly looking for opportunities to evolve the department and advance the work.
  • You are passionate about the work you do and treat your client’s business as if it were your own.
  • Have a track record of success in building strong relationships, leading teams, influencing others, and navigating client culture.
  • You have a diverse and inclusive perspective, valuing different viewpoints and backgrounds within the team.
  • You make others’ jobs easier (no matter who they are or what they do)
  • You create a positive and open environment.
  • Your attention to detail is unmatched, ensuring that paid outputs meet the highest quality standards and align with client objectives.
  • You know how to work smarter, not harder.

Movement Strategy is an Equal Opportunity Employer

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply for jobs unless they check every single box. Movement Strategy is dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and strongly encourages those from historically and systemically marginalized communities to apply.

We believe that what we put out into the world matters. And since we were founded on the principles of paving our own path, we take bold steps toward what we believe is the right direction. This means addressing the big stuff: the systems of inequality that impact some of us far more than others. As culture creators, we firmly believe we have a responsibility to our colleagues, clients, communities, and the industry to live up to the Movement’s name. We confront inequities head-on as they come, knowing that this work is never done and that we must keep the momentum.

Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
