Senior Communications Manager
Why Mozilla?
Mozilla Corporation is the non-profit-backed technology company that has shaped the internet for the better over the last 25 years. We make pioneering brands like Firefox, the privacy-minded web browser. Now, with more than 225 million people around the world using our products each month, we’re shaping the next 25 years of technology and helping to reclaim an internet built for people, not companies. Our work focuses on diverse areas including AI, social media, security and more. And we’re doing this while never losing our focus on our core mission – to make the internet better for people.
The Mozilla Corporation is wholly owned by the non-profit 501(c) Mozilla Foundation. This means we aren’t beholden to any shareholders — only to our mission. Along with thousands of volunteer contributors and collaborators all over the world, Mozillians design, build and distribute open-source software that enables people to enjoy the internet on their terms.
About this team and role:
Mozilla is seeking a strategic, creative, and self-directed Senior Communications Manager to shape and amplify the story of our privacy-preserving advertising products and the mission behind them. In this high-impact and collaborative role, you’ll be a vital voice for our growing Ads and Anonym teams—building compelling communications strategies and narratives, managing reputational risk, and helping define Mozilla’s distinct position in the advertising and tech ecosystems.
As a key member of Mozilla’s Communications team, you will spearhead initiatives that position Mozilla distinctively in the tech industry, differentiating us from “Big Tech” and showcasing our leadership through our values-driven products. You’ll adopt a comprehensive approach to communications, using media as one of many channels to reach and engage diverse audiences—from consumers to partners to policymakers. This role requires someone who thrives in collaborative environments, moves quickly with confidence, brings clarity to complexity, and is motivated by the opportunity to help build a healthier, more trustworthy internet.
What you'll do:
- Lead proactive and reactive communications strategies for Mozilla’s Ads and Anonym teams, including product storytelling, media relations, and reputation management.
- Craft and execute a thought leadership roadmap, identifying themes, venues, and spokespeople to elevate Mozilla’s role in shaping a better digital advertising ecosystem.
- Collaborate closely with product, marketing, legal, and policy teams to ensure accurate, thoughtful, and mission-aligned messaging.
- Provide direct support to executives—developing messaging, preparing them for media interviews and speaking engagements, and coaching as needed.
- Build communications strategies and narratives that differentiate Mozilla from Big Tech, reinforcing our leadership in privacy-preserving innovation.
- Drive cross-channel content creation (blogs, press materials, talking points, etc.) that aligns with both strategic goals and the broader brand voice.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key media, analysts, and privacy and advertising stakeholders.
- Identify and manage high-impact moments to insert Mozilla into relevant industry and cultural conversations.
- Partner closely with external vendors, agencies, and internal stakeholders to execute programs efficiently and at a high standard.
- Operate autonomously with a self-starter mindset—consistently generating fresh, creative ideas and uncovering new opportunities to drive visibility, even in the absence of major news or direction.
What you'll bring:
- 10+ years of relevant experience in communications, including experience in or an understanding of marketing and advertising.
- 3+ years working for a product-driven organization in tech. (Advertising or ad tech industry experience is a bonus).
- Proven experience working with engineering and technical communities.
- BA degree or equivalent professional experience working in a communications role or related field.
- Excellent writing and communication skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong character, ethics, and a high standard of performance.
- Ability to breakdown complex, technical information and relay it to consumer audiences in an engaging way.
- Eloquent verbal communicator with superb written skills.
- Experience collaborating with executives.
- Passion for Mozilla’s values and helping to make the internet a better place.
What you’ll get:
- Generous performance-based bonus plans to all eligible employees - we share in our success as one team
- Rich medical, dental, and vision coverage
- Generous retirement contributions with 100% immediate vesting (regardless of whether you contribute)
- Quarterly all-company wellness days where everyone takes a pause together
