Controls Systems Service Technician IV - V
Reports to: Controls Department Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Controls Service Technician to work as part of a team responsible for providing advanced building automation system (BAS) services to contracted preventative maintenance customers. This position will also occasionally work on new and retrofit project duties including starting up systems, troubleshooting, commissioning, and training. This position requires the ability to work through high-level, multifaceted issues, and clearly communicate the issues, statuses, and resolutions with customers, and other involved parties. This position requires the individual to perform all duties with high quality and professionalism and work autonomously through most tasks. Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain customer relationships, with a focus on facilities / owner clients
- Analyze problems and resolve issues to ensure proper system functionality
- Explore and report opportunities for advanced solutions for building operations and energy savings
- Creation and modification of graphics and Niagara programming
- Perform service repairs, replacements, adjustments, and calibration on system components
- Provide technical support and training to customers and peers
- Checkout, start-up, and commissioning on projects and existing system adds
- Mentoring and assisting peers as required
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, Military Service and/or Trade School certification or degree
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience with HVAC Building Automation Systems
- Niagara N4 certified, Honeywell Webs is a plus, familiar with other control systems
- Strong understanding of BACnet protocol, with some Lonworks and Modbus experience
- Must have good computer skills and be familiar with IP networks
- Strong communication skills required (both verbal and written)
- Flexible to work overtime, weekends and/or an on-call schedule as needed
- Proficient in reading plans, submittal drawings and wiring diagrams
- Must have experience using various hand and power tools
- Ability to travel out-of-town occasionally may be required
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving history

Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Mental stamina for problem solving and prioritizing multiple tasks.
Environmental Requirements
Will be required to work in a field environment, multiple customer sites on a daily basis.

Ability to establish and grow relationships with customers through effective verbal and written communication. Dedicated to the needs of the customers, manufacturers and peers and has the patience to actively listen to all business partners. Able to solve problems and skillfully negotiate with a minimum of noise while managing stress. Demonstrates integrity and trust through appropriate directness and truthfulness. Ability to understand personal strengths and weaknesses, seek feedback and improve upon shortcomings.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to operate computer keyboard reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is continually required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
