Software Engineer I - Infrastructure as Code Team

As a Software Engineer I on the Infrastructure engineering team, you will be instrumental in shaping the foundation of our fintech solutions. Your mission will be to drive innovation, scalability, and reliability within our cloud-based infrastructure. You will build Infrastructure tooling on top of AWS primitives, work with cross-functional teams like security, development, and operations to achieve infrastructure goals.

We seek to be secure, available, fully automated, repeatable, Cloud Native, and part of the community. Our team reduces the cost of operating by creating the infrastructure and scaffolding for our engineering user community to deploy multi-region, highly-available services.

The Impact You’ll Have

  • Design, build, and maintain software to enable resilient and scalable infrastructure provisioning that supports the engineering user community at Marqeta the core payments platform. This role is pivotal in crafting innovative automated strategies that elevate safety standards and ensure seamless compliance.  
  • Work with key stakeholders in shaping our Infrastructure as code (IaC) policies,  write IaC modules that align with best practices and implement detection capabilities for non compliant architecture.
  • Drive tooling innovation that accelerates developer productivity and reduces toil.
  • Work in close collaboration with our security team to ensure the highest levels of security and compliance for our cloud infrastructure.  
  • Contribute across cross-functional projects to achieve infrastructure excellence and participate in yearly audits.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree.  In lieu of a degree, 2+ years of relevant experience may suffice.
  • Proficiency in programming languages and scripting for automation (e.g., Python, Ruby or Go).
  • Experience with AWS services such as CodeBuild, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB and  AWS access controls.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and a strong background in infrastructure as code (preferably, Terraform).  
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to convey complex concepts accessibly, while actively engaging in team-driven initiatives.
  • You are an automation champion and can develop and maintain tools for provisioning, monitoring, and managing cloud resources, optimizing system performance and resource utilization.

Nice-To-Haves

  • Familiarity with IaC pipelines and tooling
  • Experience writing OPA policies using rego
  • Experience in software delivery pipelines and CI/CD systems

Compensation and Benefits

When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire base salary range for this position, reflected in CAD, is: 76,300 - 95,400.
