Network Engineer II - Cloud and Infrastructure

Marqeta is looking for a highly motivated Network Engineer II looking to deepen their expertise in modern enterprise and cloud network architecture. This position offers hands-on experience with AWS networking products, Palo Alto Networks firewalls, and Cisco Systems switching gear, while playing a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining our hybrid infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and troubleshoot secure network architectures using AWS networking tools (VPC, TGW, Direct Connect, etc.)
  • Configure and maintain Palo Alto Networks firewalls, including security policies, VPNs, NAT rules, and threat prevention features
  • Support Layer 2/3 switching and routing environments using Cisco switching platforms (e.g., Catalyst, Nexus)
  • Analyze and optimize network performance using tools and monitoring solutions
  • Maintain documentation and network diagrams for internal and compliance use
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support DevOps and cloud migration efforts
  • Work with Equinix Peering Fabric and other interconnection solutions to ensure reliable cloud and data center connectivity
  • Assist in configuring and troubleshooting TCP/IP stack-related issues, including DNS, DHCP, BGP, and VPN tunnel.

Requirements

  • 2–5 years of experience in network engineering or infrastructure support
  • Familiarity with core AWS networking concepts (VPC, subnets, route tables, security groups)
  • Experience or training with Palo Alto firewall configuration and management
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco network switches and command-line tools
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), and packet analysis
  • Exposure to Equinix or other colocation environments, including Peering Fabric
  • Ability to work independently and troubleshoot complex networking issues
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AWS Certified Advanced Networking – Specialty (or working toward it)
  • Palo Alto PCNSE or similar certification
  • Cisco CCNA or CCNP certification
  • Experience working with automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Python scripts for networking tasks)

Compensation and Benefits

Marqeta is a Flex First company which allows you to choose your best working environment, whether that be from home or at a company office. To support Flex First, we calibrate pay to a competitive value according to working location. 

When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire annual base salary range for this position, reflected in CAD, is: 91,500 - 114,400.
