
Senior Software Engineer - Credit
Marqeta is looking for talented Senior Backend Software Engineers to join our Credit Engineering team. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will develop scalable software that powers Marqeta's backend services. You will create and review engineering design documentation, continuously improve our systems, infrastructure, and processes, create features, review code, and collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders across the company. As a Backend Engineer, you'll ship products that matter and play an important role in helping Marqeta scale as the leader in modern card issuing. You'll innovate on architecture, write impactful software and spend time mentoring other engineers.

- Rewards Team: The Rewards team in Credit Engineering is responsible for accurate and timely accrual and redemption of credit rewards. This is a high performing team working on the highest initiative project within Credit. The new rewards platform will allow our customers to customize every aspect of accrual, conversion, and redemption to match their loyalty goals.
- Commercial Credit: The Commercial Credit team is responsible for maintaining the end user and customer experience for Managed by Marqeta programs. We maintain and develop solutions for customers that allow them to integrate into the Managed By Marqeta ecosystems seamlessly and quickly by providing a framework of SDKs, UX and backend services that make it easy for customers with little experience or those who want to offload implementation details about their credit implementation to Marqeta. We deal with commercial and consumer credit programs and interface directly with the customer.
- Account Management Team: The Account Management team in Credit Engineering is responsible for accurate recording of credit account transactions, account balances, statementing, and reporting. This is a high performing and collaborative team working on the core foundation of the credit platform. The system is expected to be highly accurate and scalable, with ongoing feature enhancement to provide a wider range of capabilities for credit issuers.
The Impact You’ll Have
- Design and implement high-performance solutions for large-scale, high-volume, and high-velocity financial data and complex compliance landscapes.
- Develop the software and infrastructure to achieve repeatable and efficient high-quality releases with automation, seeking opportunities to replace redundant tasks and enhance engineering focus on strategic challenges.
- Debug critical production issues across services and different stack levels.
- Apply a detail-oriented mindset to analyze data, detect patterns, and create well-organized documentation for non-technical audiences.
- Diagnose and resolve production issues across various services and system layers.
- Meticulously evaluate data, identify patterns, and communicate complex information clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
Who You Are
- You have 5+ years of industry experience in software development in Java, service-oriented architectures, and cloud computing (AWS preferred).
- Experience developing in Java, Kotlin and Relational Database/SQL.
- Experience with Java Spring Boot
- Experience with Kubernetes and/or Docker
- Experience with a front-end framework like React or Next.js and knowledge of CSS/HTML
- Knowledge of common design patterns in scalable distributed systems as well as core computer science concepts
- Ability to develop and deliver clean, readable and error-free code with thorough documentation and testing.
- Ability to understand existing designs and technology choices and make appropriate adjustments when necessary.
- Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and respectful manner both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to share relevant information including if difficult task-level trade-offs that impact the product need to be made.
- The ability to demonstrate humility, empathy, and to take constructive feedback positively.
- A desire to grow in your career, learn, share ideas and help others grow and learn.
- The capacity to work productively on cross-functional teams and take a collaborative, team oriented approach.

- Experience with payments or the FinTech space

Compensation and Benefits
Marqeta is a Flex First company which allows you to choose your best working environment, whether that be from home or at a company office. To support Flex First, we calibrate pay to a competitive value according to working location.
When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire base salary range for this position, reflected in CAD, is: 112,000 - 140,000.
