Vendor Risk Manager

Remote, USA

Marqeta is looking for the right person to lead and manage the company’s Third-Party Risk Management (TPRM) program for Vendors. As Marqeta’s Vendor Risk Manager on the Vendor Management team, you will be instrumental in the development and implementation of this program. We’re looking for an experienced and driven professional who can work independently to assess, manage, and mitigate vendor risk appropriately in collaboration with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be someone who is enthusiastic, flexible, detail-oriented, a strategic thinker, passionate about creative problem solving, is exceptional at working cross-functionally, and thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with many challenges and opportunities.

We work Flexible First. This role can be performed remotely anywhere within the United States. We’d love for you to join us!

The Impact You’ll Have

  • Design, develop, implement, and refine Marqeta’s Vendor Risk Management (VRM) policy, standards, and procedures.
  • Evaluate the risks associated with Marqeta’s vendor relationships and implement and maintain an appropriate control environment to manage those risks, consistent with the company’s risk tolerance and business objectives.
  • Facilitate the resolution of escalated vendor-related issues, including those relating to risk assessments, audits, and vendor onboarding and offboarding.
  • Manage the Vendor side of Marqeta’s procure-to-pay system to ensure Vendor Risk Management procedures and requirements are represented in Marqeta’s overall Vendor Management operations.
  • Partner with Risk Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) such as Privacy, Security, Legal, Risk Operations, Compliance, and others to ensure the company’s Vendor Risk Management program comprehensively addresses all relevant vendor-related risks.
  • Partner with Compliance teammates to share learnings and identify opportunities to align approaches, where appropriate, to managing vendor- and customer-related risk.
  • Establish a vendor monitoring process which focuses on Quarterly Business Reports (QBRs), SLA tracking, and ongoing risk monitoring for our most critical vendors.
  • Be a critical partner in the vendor onboarding and offboarding process.
  • Curate a vendor-related inventory and artifacts demonstrating adherence to established Vendor Risk Management processes.
  • Establish and monitor metrics and reporting to identify vendor-related risks and manage the performance of the company’s Vendor Risk Management program.
  • Stay abreast of and communicate market insights to drive both short and long-term Vendor Risk Management strategies.

Who You Are

  • 5+ years of relevant Third-Party Risk Management experience, with a focus on Vendor Risk Management. This experience should ideally be within Payments, FinTech, Consulting, and/or SaaS-based technology companies. A diverse mix of experience across these industries is highly desirable, as opposed to experience solely within a specific sector.
  • Experience in regulatory or regulatory-adjacent industries/environments and an understanding of the regulatory requirements and expectations that govern and inform Vendor Risk Management in the Payments, FinTech, and/or Banking industries.
  • Experience directly interfacing with external parties (e.g. banks, regulators).
  • Proven track record of designing, developing, implementing, and refining Vendor Risk Management programs. This should include conducting assessments to identify risks and opportunities and using that information to inform the development of a Vendor Risk Management program.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and handle a high volume of work. Must be able to prioritize tasks effectively, maintain a high level of productivity, and meet tight deadlines without compromising the quality of work.
  • Able to operate without already defined or established processes, tools, or templates.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills.
  • Able to influence and guide decisions across multiple cross functional teams.
  • Proven project management skills with analytical and problem solving abilities to identify business drivers and develop and implement strategies.
