Orchard Assistant Manager - Sorrento
We're on the lookout for a driven, detail-oriented Orchard Assistant Manager to lead at Sorrento Orchard, located in Hastings. If you're an experienced horticulturist ready to lead with purpose and ambition, this is your chance to take the next step.
What you’ll be doing:
As an Assistant Manager you will assist in every aspect of running and maintaining the orchard from optimising efficiencies through to motivating and coaching the team to get the best results. You’ll be hands-on in daily operations, working closely with experienced professionals in a collaborative and growth-focused environment.
Your key responsibilities will include:
• Maximise the efficiency of daily orchard operations in close collaboration with the Orchard Manager
• Implement company policies focused on orchard husbandry techniques, ensuring alignment with operational goals
• Ensure full compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards
• Lead, motivate, and manage orchard teams in accordance with HR policies and procedures
• Promote and uphold safe workplace practices in line with company Health and Safety protocols
• Hire, induct, and train seasonal and permanent team members effectively
• Inspire teams to achieve optimal performance and exceptional fruit quality
What you’ll bring:
• Proven experience in large-scale horticulture and orchard operations
• Confident leadership and supervisory abilities
• Strong knowledge of orchard technologies and systems
• Excellent communication, time management, and organisational skills
• Familiarity with machine operation and maintenance
• Expertise in tree husbandry and people management
• Knowledge of pest control, disease management, and chemical use
• Basic skills in accounting, business, and financial operations
• A full, current driver’s licence
• Legal eligibility to work in New Zealand and ability to pass pre-employment checks
