Systems Engineering Intern (Summer 2026)
About the role
Summer internships will range between the months of May and September depending on university schedules. Internship is full-time and on-site in Mountain View, CA.
The Systems Engineering team at Muon is responsible for end-to-end system and mission design and integration, spanning from the mission formulation, through design, build, and operations! Interns can look forward to owning a project from start to finish, which could involve conducting critical trade studies for a future mission, developing system-level models to predict on-orbit performance, defining a key subsystem interface, or creating the test plan for our next vehicle. Responsibilities
- Take ownership of or contribute to cross-functional projects spanning hardware, software, mission operations and data delivery.
- Develop system models, simulations, and analyses to support architecture decisions, performance validation, and test campaigns.
- Define and manage system requirements, interfaces, and verification plans.
- Initiate or assist in system-level integration and test campaigns, including designing and improving test setups and procedures.
- Engage in testing and analysis activities in the lab, either on the bench or with integrated flight hardware.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Aerospace, Systems, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals across multiple disciplines (e.g., mechanical, electrical, software).
- Demonstrated proficiency in a programming or scripting language for analysis and modeling (e.g., Python, MATLAB/Simulink, Julia, C++).
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to approach complex, multi-disciplinary challenges from a first-principles perspective.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
Nice-to-have Skills
- Previous internship or co-op experience
- Previous experience on technical project teams (i.e. Rocket club, CubeSat, Formula SAE, Solar Car)
- Knowledge of a specific satellite subsystem or domain, such as orbital mechanics, GNC, RF communications, or power systems.
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL/HITL) testing or system integration.
Salary
The hourly wage for this role is $50.
