Harness Designer - Electrical
About the role
Muon seeks a Harness Designer to join our electrical engineering team. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and will help the entire Hardware Department. You will be working on the electrical team and will specify connectors, crimps, wire type and harness build instructions. This role will work in tandem with the mechanical harness counterpart who will specify routes, lengths, branch points and spacecraft integration instructions. This designer should be flexible and incorporate feedback from the AIT team to help with improving designs for spacecraft integration or test.
The role will entail simultaneous work on multiple missions and projects, partnering with several engineers, designers, and technicians.
Responsibilities
- Create harness drawings, BOMs and maintain system diagrams
- Specify connector and crimp part numbers in accordance with system design
- Gather feedback from AIT, EE and Mechanical for initial designs and improvements
- Work with electrical engineering to ensure compliance with signal integrity, grounding, and shielding requirements
- Release documentation into PLM with ECO/DCO
- Define electrical test criteria (e.g., continuity, insulation resistance, hipot) for flight and test harnesses. Support or oversee test execution and documentation
- Answer vendor questions on harness builds and feedback quality issues
- As required assist in house technicians with harness builds and questions
Qualifications
- Attention to detail, strong reading comprehension and a desire for ownership
- Familiarity with creating harness drawings in any software
- Familiarity with PLM systems (Duro preferred, or Arena or others acceptable)
- Ability to build harnesses from scratch - not required daily but helps inform strip lengths, crimper positioners and settings, splicing techniques, heatshrink selection, torque values etc.
- Excited to work in a fast-paced environment with new challenges each week
Nice-to-have Skills
- Experience designing harnesses with high reliability requirements
- Familiarity with NASA-STD-8739.4 and IPC-A-620
- Experience with RF cable build and characterization
- Basic scripting skills in Python, Bash, etc.
- History with using electrical test equipment, such as power supplies and electric loads
- Experience with harness test either at the vendor level or in house
- Certification in relevant build/rework standards
- Experience with low outgassing material selection
Salary
- The salary range for this role is $149,000 - $171,000, plus a competitive equity grant and comprehensive benefits package. Final compensation will be determined based on skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location as assessed during the interview process.
