Staff Product Manager, Software

Mountain View, CA

About the role

Muon Space is hiring a Staff Product Manager to own two of the highest-leverage software product surfaces in the company: our commercial Data Products business (GNSS-R, MSIR, and AICore-derived offerings) and the Muon Sim platform that underpins our ability to deliver mission-optimized constellations. Reporting to the VP of Product, you will own the productization decisions — pricing architecture, packaging, SLAs, customer tiering, data delivery — that will define the unit economics of our data business for years to come. This is a deliberate Staff-level (L6) IC role: the work requires the seniority to make load-bearing commercial decisions, the technical fluency to engage with platform and infrastructure leadership as a peer, and the judgment to operate across two adjacent surfaces with one owner until portfolio scale warrants a split.

Responsibilities

Data Products & Commercial Strategy

  • Own the commercial product strategy for Muon’s Data Products portfolio, including GNSS-R, MSIR, fire data products, and AICore-derived commercial offerings (defense-aligned variants remain under our Federal PM lead).
  • Define and publish the pricing architecture, packaging, and customer tiering for Muon’s data products — including how capabilities are bundled, what is included at each tier, and how pricing scales with refresh cadence, latency, and AOI / coverage.
  • Define data SLA tiers and align them with downlink prioritization across the constellation; partner with Mission Operations and Bits-to-Ground to ensure SLA commitments are operationally achievable.
  • Partner with the BD Data Manager and Growth org on data contracts, deal structure, and the boundary between standardized packaging and bespoke commercial terms.
  • Drive the shift from bespoke, project-based data contracts to standardized, tiered packaging — a primary ROI vector for the role.
  • Conduct customer interviews, gather feedback on product–market fit, and translate insights into roadmap decisions and pricing experiments.
  • Analyze why deals are won or lost, identify product gaps and competitive advantages, and feed structured insights back into product development.

Muon Sim

  • Own product strategy and roadmap for the Muon Sim platform, recognized internally as a core differentiator for Muon’s mission engineering value proposition.
  • Translate complex mission modeling, simulation, and digital-twin requirements into a coherent product surface that serves both internal mission engineering teams and external customers.
  • Define the productization path for Muon Sim — including the high-side variant on the roadmap — and the commercial and licensing model that supports it.
  • Partner with simulation, mission engineering, and software teams to balance fidelity, performance, and time-to-market across releases.

Cross-functional Coordination

  • Partner closely with engineering teams across software, data infrastructure, ground systems, and cloud — operating at peer level with infrastructure and platform engineering leadership.
  • Coordinate with the Director of PM — Federal on the boundary between commercial and defense-aligned data product variants.
  • Coordinate with the Junior PM covering Muon Command and ground operations on adjacencies between data delivery and mission operations software.
  • Support Go-To-Market teams with sales enablement, technical documentation, RFP responses, customer demonstrations, and product positioning materials.
  • Work with marketing on product messaging, website content, case studies, whitepapers, and thought-leadership content that drives demand generation for Muon’s data and software portfolio.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Product and the broader PM team on strategic roadmap decisions, prioritization trade-offs, and Series-C-aligned narrative.

Required Qualifications

  • 8–10 years of Product Management experience, with demonstrated success owning data, SaaS, or API products in technically complex environments.
  • Proven track record shipping pricing architecture, packaging, and SLA design for multi-segment data products — and translating those decisions into commercial outcomes.
  • Strong fluency working with infrastructure and platform engineering leadership; able to influence cross-organizational technical investment without direct authority.
  • Experience defining and operating customer-facing data delivery, including APIs, portals, and tiered SLAs.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate customer mission needs into detailed product requirements and acceptance criteria across software and data systems.
  • Experience with configuration control and change management for production data products.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred.

Nice-to-have Skills

  • Experience in remote sensing, geospatial, Earth observation, or adjacent deep-tech data domains.
  • Familiarity with GNSS-R, MSIR, RF, or other space-based sensing modalities and their commercial applications.
  • Experience productizing simulation, modeling, or digital-twin platforms.
  • Familiarity with LEO constellation operations and the economics of downlink and tasking.
  • Previous experience deploying or scaling a Product function within a space, defense, or deep-tech company.
  • Prior experience in startup or high-growth technology environments.

Salary

The base salary range for this role is $211,000 – $254,000 and will depend on a candidate’s skills, geographic location, qualifications, and experience as defined during the interview process.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
