Technician II, Testbeds & EGSE
About the role
Muon seeks a Technician to join our Testbeds & EGSE team — the group that builds the Hardware-In-The-Loop (HITL) testbeds behind every Muon mission and the electrical ground support equipment (EGSE) used to interface with our satellites during assembly, integration, and test. You'll be the hands that build and keep this critical infrastructure running: assembling testbed racks and EGSE units, fabricating harnesses, and maintaining the systems that software and hardware teams depend on every day.
The right person is a meticulous builder and troubleshooter who works well from drawings and block diagrams, keeps hardware organized and documented, and takes pride in infrastructure that just works. Much of this hardware is first-of-its-kind: you'll often work without a step-by-step procedure, and you should be comfortable digging for information and going directly to engineers to get what you need.
Due to the hands-on nature of this role, it requires onsite work at our San Jose location 5x day a week.
Responsibilities
- Assemble HITL testbed hardware: racks, avionics modules, wiring, and interconnects, working from drawings, block diagrams, and engineering direction
- Assemble and maintain spacecraft test equipment (EGSE) used to power, command, and monitor satellites during integration and test
- Fabricate, modify, and repair cable harnesses, including connectorization, pinning, and continuity checkout
- Perform PCBA assembly and rework (surface mount and through-hole soldering)
- Maintain testbed infrastructure and support resources — power, network, and lab equipment — and respond quickly when systems go down
- Troubleshoot electrical issues with standard test tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes) alongside engineers
- Perform light mechanical fabrication: drilling, tapping, rack fit-up, and proper torquing of fasteners
- Track testbed and EGSE inventory, and document builds, changes, and repairs with logs and procedure redlines
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience assembling and maintaining electrical or electromechanical hardware
- Skilled in harness fabrication: connectorization, pinning, crimping, and continuity testing
- Experience with PCBA assembly and rework (surface mount and through-hole)
- Competence with basic electrical test tools (multimeter at minimum) for troubleshooting
- Comfort in a Linux heavy development environment
- Ability to work from drawings, schematics, and block diagrams with minimal supervision
- Self-sufficient when documentation is thin: comfortable seeking out information, asking engineers directly, and exercising judgment rather than waiting for a formal procedure
- Careful documentation habits and an organized approach to lab and inventory management
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift week to week
Nice-to-have Skills
- Experience supporting test labs, HITL facilities, or similar engineering infrastructure
- IPC-A-620 / J-STD-001 or similar certifications for soldering and cable assembly
- Familiarity with Linux command line, Bash, or Python basics
- Experience with rack-based electronics, networking, or power distribution equipment
- Aerospace, automotive, or other high-reliability industry experience
Salary
The salary range for this role is $126,000 - $146,000, plus a competitive equity grant and comprehensive benefits package. Final compensation will be determined based on skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location as assessed during the interview process.
