Job Summary
MycoWorks is seeking a Packaging Engineer to lead the development and optimization of our packaging systems. As part of our Process Development team, this role is critical to ensuring our packaging solutions are cost-effective, efficient, and compatible with our product’s unique material properties. The ideal candidate will have experience in food or pharmaceutical packaging and understand the challenges of packaging products that are sensitive to environmental conditions.
Responsibilities:
- Design and optimize packaging solutions that meet cost, efficiency, and performance requirements.
- Analyze current packaging spend and identify opportunities for cost reduction and operational improvement.
- Select and qualify packaging materials and suppliers, ensuring alignment with the product’s characteristics and supply chain needs.
- Conduct performance testing (e.g., durability, transportation, and storage conditions) to ensure packaging maintains product integrity.
- Work closely with manufacturing, supply chain, and product teams to ensure seamless packaging integration and efficiency in production workflows.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and best practices
- Stay up to date on new packaging technologies that could improve cost, efficiency, or product protection.
- Troubleshoot packaging-related issues and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering/Science, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in packaging engineering with a strong preference for food or pharmaceutical packaging.
- Strong understanding of material compatibility with degradable or biologically sensitive products.
- Experience with packaging design software and lab testing methods for packaging validation.
- Familiarity with automated packaging processes and cost optimization strategies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on ROI-driven decision-making.
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and work with external vendors.
- Knowledge of barrier packaging technologies to extend product shelf life.
- Supplier sourcing and negotiation experience for packaging materials.
- Experience with high-volume production packaging and its impact on manufacturing efficiency.
- Ability to travel internationally up to 25%
