Job Summary:
We are seeking a creative electrical engineer to fill the role of Controls Engineer within the MycoWorks Engineering Team. This role will report to the Engineering Manager and will be based in Union, South Carolina, the site of our newest state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. This is a key technical position within the factory and will work collaboratively with both Process Development and Production Operations to develop and scale equipment automation solutions, data collection systems, machine learning technology, and electrical systems infrastructure to increase manufacturing capacity and meet market demand. Expertise in machine design, manufacturing automation, and process control as well as a passion for sustainability are critical for this role.
Responsibilities:
- Support the overall electrical design for a new manufacturing process and a new production plant.
- Execute the design, installation, and startup of manufacturing electrical systems, including equipment power distribution, equipment process control, and data information systems.
- Specify/design electrical subsystems for new equipment supporting high-volume production based on product transformational requirements and process operational criteria.
- Research new technologies, design control systems, and implement automation solutions to improve manufacturing reliability and production throughput.
- Provide technical direction to engineering firms, equipment vendors, and construction resources throughout all project phases (design through construction and startup).
- Execute vendor acceptance testing and startup validation activities for new manufacturing equipment.
- Lead strategic controls-related improvement projects across all areas of the factory.
- Support the plant operations team in troubleshooting difficult equipment breakdowns and chronic electrical failures to minimize production downtime.
Qualifications:
- Electrical Engineering Degree (BS/MS)
- Manufacturing Industry Experience (4+ Years - Preferably Food/Beverage, Consumer Products, Automotive, or Similar High-Volume Industries)
- Diverse Technology Background (Material Handling & Robotics Systems, Automated Storage & Retrieval Systems, Autonomous Mobile Robots, Automated Guided Vehicles, Vision Systems, etc.)
- Allen Bradley & Siemens Control Systems Expertise
- ABB & Fanuc Robotics Systems Expertise
- Electrical Troubleshooting Skills (Hardware + Software - Including Reading Wiring Diagrams, Understanding Ladder Logic, Diagnosing Controls Issues, & Programming PLC’s / HMI’s)
- Electrical Code Knowledge for Manufacturing Equipment Design (NEC, UL, etc.)
- Project Management Proficiency (Scheduling, Budgeting, & Resourcing)
