Staff Software Engineer, Cloud Infrastructure

Remote - US

At MyFitnessPal, we believe good health starts with what you eat. We provide tools, resources and support to enable users to reach their health goals.

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join the MyFitnessPal Infrastructure team. As a member of the MyFitnessPal Infrastructure team, you’ll have the opportunity to positively impact MyFitnessPal users through your expertise in the cloud infrastructure that drives the foundation of the MyFitnessPal ecosystem. In addition to technical expertise, you’ll find that your teammates value collaboration, mentorship, and inclusive environments.

About the team:

The Infrastructure team is responsible for architecting and operating the cloud and edge platforms that power all of our production and internal services. We are looking to evolve the team’s capabilities through opinionated infrastructure, developer self-service capabilities, and a strong bias toward automation over manual operations.

The Infrastructure team is part of the Technology Operations (TechOps) organization, which includes IT, Infrastructure, Security, Reliability, and DevOps/DevEx disciplines.  TechOps seeks to enable MyFitnessPal to “ship with confidence” by delivering a secure, reliable, and low-friction runway to build and operate software at scale.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Infrastructure team, you will design, build, manage, and maintain an efficient, resilient, and secure production cloud and container-based infrastructure. You will play a key role in delivering an outstanding experience to MyFitnessPal users.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead major technical initiatives, researching and guiding the implementation of high-quality technical solutions that improve MyFitnessPal’s developer and user experience
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional peers to select for and solve the most impactful problems for the larger organization
  • Identify requirements for building an infrastructure that supports rapid, autonomous, and secure delivery of production changes
  • Mature the Infrastructure team’s capabilities through automation and efficient architectural design
  • Coach team members to grow technical skills and increase the success of the team
  • Provide thought leadership on industry best practices around design, testing, security, and deployment
  • Turn big ideas or complex problems into simple, elegant solutions

Qualifications to be successful in this role:

  • Possess 3+ years of experience as a senior software or senior cloud infrastructure engineer
  • Extensive experience with Linux/Unix-based systems and cloud-native infrastructure on AWS using Docker and Kubernetes (e.g., EC2, EKS, S3, etc.)
  • Expertise in public cloud-based networking and security (e.g., AWS VPC, Cloudflare, etc.)
  • Extensive experience investigating and resolving technical problems, especially in the context of incident response, using cloud observability solutions (e.g., Datadog, New Relic, etc.)
  • Experience designing and applying automated testing and tooling to reduce maintenance overhead and operational toil
  • Demonstrated experience planning and executing complex infrastructure and application migrations in production environments
  • Demonstrated proficiency with IaC tools (Terraform is a plus) and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions is a plus)
  • Familiarity with IAM and security policy management
  • Familiarity with data stores (e.g., MySQL, Redis, DynamoDB)
  • AWS or equivalent cloud solutions architect certifications are a plus
  • Experience with platform engineering and building self-service developer platforms is a plus

Values you’ll model

  • Be Kind and Care — build with empathy; assume positive intent; support teammates and members.
  • Live Good Health — champion healthy habits and balance in how we work and what we ship.
  • Be Data-Inspired — ground decisions in research and data; measure what matters.
  • Champion Change — lean into ambiguity; iterate, learn, and improve continuously.
  • Leave it Better than You Found It — raise quality, clarify systems, and document as you go.
  • Make It Happen — bias to action; deliver impact with craft and accountability.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
