Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Director of Networking & Security to lead and scale high-performing teams responsible for enterprise networking and cybersecurity services across managed services and MSSP environments.

This is a people-first leadership role with primary accountability for building, managing, mentoring, and transforming teams of network and security engineers across global delivery environments.

The ideal candidate is a transformational leader with a proven history of:

  • Delivering results in complex, global enterprise environments
  • Driving operational excellence and continuous improvement

This leader will serve as a strategic executive advisor to customers and internal stakeholders, responsible for defining infrastructure roadmaps, evolving managed services capabilities, and ensuring scalable, resilient, and cost-optimized environments. The ideal candidate brings a blend of deep technical expertise, strong business acumen, and proven experience leading high-performing engineering and architecture teams within a managed services or enterprise environment.

This position plays a critical role in expanding managed services offerings, improving service delivery maturity, and aligning infrastructure services with modern hybrid cloud and consumption-based models.  Candidate should be able to serve as a trusted advisor, with the ability to simplify complex issues and speak to C-Suite executives.  Excellent customer service skills are a must.  The successful candidate will lead managers and drive initiatives around processes, training, delivery quality, and customer service to support a growing managed services business.

 Key Responsibilities

People Leadership & Team Development (Primary Focus)

  • Build, lead, and scale high-performance teams of network and security engineers, architects, and technical leaders
  • Develop structured training, certification, and career progression programs
  • Lead global hiring, onboarding, and workforce planning strategies
  • Drive organizational transformation and turnarounds for underperforming teams
  • Establish strong coaching, mentorship, and leadership development frameworks

Global Delivery & MSSP Operations

  • Lead globally distributed teams supporting 24x7 managed services and MSSP operations (NOC/SOC alignment)
  • Scale delivery across multi-client, multi-region environments
  • Own SLAs, KPIs, and customer satisfaction metrics
  • Drive automation, standardization, and service delivery maturity

Networking & Security Domain Leadership

Networking Foundations (Core Infrastructure Ownership)

  • Oversee enterprise network infrastructure including:
  • Physical components (routers, switches, cabling)
  • Virtual networking layers across data center and cloud environments
  • Ensure deep expertise across network protocols, including:
  • TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, SMTP/IMAP
  • Govern architecture and standards for:
  • IP addressing (IPv4/IPv6) and subnetting strategies
  • MAC addressing and Layer 2/Layer 3 segmentation
  • Ports and service communication models
  • Define and standardize network topologies, including:
  • Star, mesh, hybrid, and distributed architectures
  • Drive performance across:
    • Network availability, throughput, latency, and fault tolerance
    • High availability (HA) and redundancy architectures
  • Lead modernization of cloud networking, including:
  • Virtual networks, VPCs, hybrid connectivity, and secure segmentation

Security Capability Pillars

Secure Access & Edge

  • Lead SASE / SSE / ZTNA strategy and service delivery
  • Enable secure, identity-driven access across distributed environments

Identity-First Security

  • Oversee IAM (Okta, Azure AD) and Privileged Access Management (PAM)
  • Implement Zero Trust identity models and governance

Security Operations & Threat Detection

  • Lead XDR / MDR capabilities and service delivery
  • Drive SIEM / SOAR integration, threat detection, and response maturity

Cloud Security

  • Own security capabilities across:
    • CNAPP, CSPM, CWPP
  • Secure hybrid and multi-cloud environments

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Align services to:
    • NIST, SOC 2, HIPAA frameworks
  • Embed compliance into managed service delivery models

OT / Edge / IoT Security

  • Secure operational technology, IoT, and edge environments
  • Drive segmentation, monitoring, and risk reduction strategies

Perimeter & Network Protection

  • Lead DDoS protection, firewall strategy, IDS/IPS, and segmentation
  • Ensure proactive defense and threat containment across network layers

Service Delivery & Operational Excellence

  • Own end-to-end delivery performance across networking and security services
  • Drive maturity in:
  • Incident, problem, and change management
  • Monitoring and observability
  • Lead LEAN-driven continuous improvement, including:
    • Process optimization and waste reduction
    • Standard work and performance metrics
  • Operational transformation across global teams

Client Engagement & Executive Leadership

  • Serve as an executive leader in client engagements and escalations
  • Lead strategic reviews, service improvement initiatives, and roadmap discussions
  • Partner with sales and solutions teams to expand MSSP and networking offerings

 

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a senior people leader managing large networking and security teams
  • Demonstrated success building, scaling, and transforming high-performance teams
  • Experience leading global delivery operations within MSP/MSSP environments
  • Expertise across core networking fundamentals and advanced security domains
  • Deep experience in:
    • Networking infrastructure, protocols, and architecture
    • SASE / SSE / ZTNA
    • Identity-first security (IAM, Okta, Azure AD, PAM)
    • XDR / MDR and security operations
    • Cloud security (CNAPP, CSPM, CWPP)
    • Compliance frameworks (NIST, SOC2, HIPAA)
    • OT / IoT / edge security
    • DDoS and network protection strategies
  • Strong understanding of Zero Trust architecture and modern security frameworks
  • Experience building or scaling managed services portfolios and delivery frameworks.
  • Familiarity with automation and monitoring tools (e.g., LogicMonitor, ServiceNow, scripting frameworks).
  • Strong financial acumen related to infrastructure cost models and consumption-based services.
  • Prior experience building or turning around high-performance managed services teams
  • Prior experience implementing and scaling ITIL and LEAN process frameworks
  • Strong financial and operational acumen
  • Strong understanding of ITSM frameworks, operational processes, and managed services delivery models.
  • Experience in performance tuning, capacity planning, and large-scale infrastructure optimization.
  • Excellent executive communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts.

 Preferred Experience:

  • 15-20+ years of experience in enterprise networking and security, with at least 10+ years in leadership roles, and at least 5+ years in people leadership roles showing increasing levels of seniority.
  • Prior experience in a Managed Services Provider (MSP) or consulting organization.
  • Prior experience leading and developing managers
  • Proven track record of growing a business with documented cases of close collaboration with sales executives
  • Experience leading global delivery operations within MSP/MSSP environments
  • Expertise across core networking fundamentals and advanced security domains
  • Proven success scaling high-performance MSSP and managed services teams
  • Experience building training programs and engineering career paths
  • Strong experience in resource planning, utilization, and service profitability
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow, SIEM, SOAR, and monitoring platforms
  • Deep LEAN experience, including:
    • Kaizen and continuous improvement
    • Waste elimination and process optimization
    • Standardization and operational governance
    • Transformation of service delivery organizations
  • Certifications preferred:
    • CISSP, CISM, CCIE, or equivalent
    • Cloud security certifications (AWS, Azure)
    • LEAN / Six Sigma

Pursuant to the NYC Pay Transparency Law, the salary range in New York City for this position is $175,000- $275,000 OTE ( total compensation inclusive of base salary and bonus/commission). Compensation in other geographies may vary.
