Director of Content Operations
At the N2 Company, our vision is "to be the most respected franchise in the nation, to share stories that build community, and to provide meaningful work for our team".
About Us
The N2 Company is America’s leading publisher of community magazines. We’re proud of our award-winning media brands – they reach millions of readers in nearly every state and help great businesses connect with ideal clients – but we’re even more proud to provide supportive and fulfilling remote work opportunities for our people.
About The Role
Are you a strong operator and people leader who thrives in a fast-moving environment? Do you enjoy building effective processes, developing teams, and finding smarter ways to scale operations while maintaining a high-quality product? If you’re energized by turning big ideas into well-run operations, you could be a great fit for our team as Director of Content Operations.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you’ll lead the team and operational systems responsible for producing content for our corporate-run magazines. Today, the portfolio includes approximately 125 magazines, with plans to grow to 200, allowing you to build and scale an operation with meaningful impact.
You’ll focus on creating the structure, processes, and team development needed to support growth, consistently meet deadlines, manage expenses, and increase readership engagement. You’ll bring people together around a clear vision, identify opportunities for improvement, and turn ideas into scalable solutions.
You’ll work closely with our Creative, Editorial, and Design teams to keep our magazines on brand and aligned with best practices, while partnering with Business Operations, Client Success, and Franchise leadership to build a connected, efficient operation.
This is a fully remote position. Interviews will be conducted via phone and video calls for your convenience. The salary range is $95,000 to $115,000 annually, with opportunities for growth and advancement.
The Role in Action
- Direct day-to-day content operations across roughly 125 corporate-run magazines while building scalable workflows and operating rhythms to support growth toward 200 publications.
- Oversee end-to-end production timelines, maintain strict quality benchmarks, and manage the seamless onboarding of new titles transitioning from the franchise ecosystem.
- Partner closely with the Creative, Editorial, and Design teams to eliminate bottlenecks, safeguard brand standards, and elevate readership engagement across every community served.
- Lead, coach, and develop the Content team, cultivating a culture centered on accountability, collaboration, and high-quality performance.
- Evaluate staffing capacity and allocate resources strategically to ensure people and processes can absorb portfolio growth sustainably.
- Drive strategies focused on increasing readership engagement and strengthening the value our magazines provide to their communities.
- Own the content operating budget and monitor data-driven KPIs around deadline compliance, expenses, productivity, quality, and audience engagement.
The Ideal Candidate
We care less about the number of years on your résumé and more about how you lead and get things done. The right person for this role is a strong integrator who can bring structure to complexity, create accountability, develop people, and turn ideas into action. You don’t have to be the most creative person in the room, but you should know a great idea when you see one, inspire others to get behind it, and build the systems and processes that turn that idea into reality.
You’ll thrive in this role if you’re someone who brings clarity to complexity, enjoys solving operational challenges, and knows that a strong culture and clear accountability go hand in hand.
We’re looking for someone with:
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop people while building a collaborative, accountable team culture grounded in humility and shared core values.
- Strong operations and project management background, bringing structure, clarity, and scalable processes to complex multi-stakeholder initiatives.
- Natural integrator instincts and the skill to translate high-level vision into clear execution plans and lead through growth, ambiguity, and change.
- Deep experience managing budgets, team capacity, strict deadlines, and performance metrics while protecting end-product quality.
- Skilled in cross-functional leadership and a track record of building trust and driving alignment across diverse teams and organizational levels.
- A data-driven decision-making approach, using KPIs to diagnose operational challenges, optimize performance, and identify areas for improvement.
- Strong creative instincts to spot opportunities that enhance magazine quality, elevate brand standards, and deepen readership engagement.
Skills and Qualities that Set You Apart
- Lead through empathy, humility, and accountability, embodying N2's Core Values while setting high standards and supporting team growth.
- Bring an operator-first mindset to establish clarity, ownership, and repeatable systems that support current demands and long-term organizational scale.
- Think like an integrator, connecting teams, ideas, and priorities into cohesive, actionable plans that rally excitement and drive execution.
- Balance product excellence with operational rigor, ensuring the systems behind the scenes consistently deliver a top-tier final product.
- Navigate growth, change, and ambiguity with ease, proactively building the framework rather than waiting for every process to be defined.
- Anticipate roadblocks and capacity constraints before they arise, staying one step ahead to keep operations moving smoothly.
- Champion innovation and continuous improvement, bringing curiosity to how AI and emerging technologies can optimize people, processes, and products.
