About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Head of Data to lead and grow our nascent Data Team. This is a critical hybrid role, requiring a deep technical expert who can not only  Individual Contributor but also set the strategic vision for the department's data capabilities and lead the team's growth. 

Candidates will report directly to the Director of Engineering and will be instrumental in transforming raw data into actionable insights that drive business strategy and product development.

Responsibilities

Individual Contributor & Technical Execution

Advanced Analytics: Directly execute complex end-to-end data science projects, including statistical modeling, machine learning, and predictive analysis.

Data Infrastructure: Partner with Engineering/IT to define requirements for and, where necessary, personally build and maintain robust data pipelines, data marts, and analytics tools to support the team's work.

Quality Assurance: Establish and enforce technical best practices, code review standards, and documentation guidelines to ensure the reliability and reproducibility of all data products.

 

Leadership & Team Development

  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor our existing Data Analyst, providing regular coaching, setting performance goals, and facilitating career development.
  • Hiring & Growth: Play a primary role in recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding new talent as the data team scales.
  • Knowledge Transfer: Promote a culture of data literacy and continuous learning within the Data Team and across the organization.

 

Strategy & Project Management

  • Strategic Vision: Define and articulate a compelling data strategy and roadmap for the department over the next 1-3 years, aligning data initiatives directly with company OKRs and business needs.
  • Project Management: Act as the technical Product Owner for the Data Team's backlog. Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of all data projects, ensuring timely delivery, managing scope, and communicating progress to stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Alignment: Collaborate with executive leadership and cross-functional teams (Product, Marketing, Operations) to identify high-impact analytical opportunities and translate ambiguous business questions into testable data hypotheses and clear deliverables.
  • Data Governance: Establish foundational principles for data governance, integrity, privacy, and security within the department.

 

Qualifications

Required Technical Skills

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in Data Science, Data Analysis, or a related quantitative field.
  • Expert proficiency in SQL and a programming language commonly used in data science (e.g., Python or R).
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing statistical models, machine learning models, and large-scale data analyses.
  • Familiarity with modern data warehousing and ETL concepts (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, DBT).
  • Strong experience with visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker).

Required Leadership & Business Skills

  • 2+ years of formal or informal experience leading projects, mentoring junior analysts/scientists, or functioning as a technical lead.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex analytical findings to both highly technical and executive audiences.
  • Proven ability to take ownership of an ambiguous problem space, define a clear strategy, and manage the execution of that strategy independently.
