About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced leader for our data science and business intelligence team to unlock the power of Nanit’s data to drive our strategy and decision making. You will be responsible for leading a team of BI analysts, data scientists and data engineers in extracting, analyzing and creating insights out of data. This role will work closely with the entire c-suite to deliver valuable business insights. The ideal person will be a player-coach, providing strategic vision while staying close to the details.

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead Nanit’s strategic direction and vision for data, analytics, and BI by defining data needs, drawing insights from the exploration of data, and feeding requirements back to product teams to make modifications to collect or leverage data in new beneficial ways
  • Own and refine Nanit’s data infrastructure and architecture to support company-wide analysis and reporting across products
  • Lead the development of data pipelines, ensuring scalability, reliability, and efficiency to support the growing data needs of the company.
  • Lead a team of Data Engineers, BI Analysts and Data Scientists who support various functional areas of the business, including mentorship and technical skills development
  • ​​Partner with senior leadership across Revenue, Marketing and Product to map business challenges and opportunities to known and unknown data and translate these business needs to technical requirements
  • Develop dashboards, reporting, and other data products (such as simulation tools) that empower self-service, data-driven decision making
  • Consult with leaders across the business to develop analytics roadmaps with particular emphasis on insights that accelerate growth across all aspects of the business
  • Communicate complex data analysis and findings effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ensure high standards for data quality, governance, and privacy, maintaining compliance with industry regulations.

Who you are:

  • BA/BS in Economics, Statistics, Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, or other quantitative field, Master’s or PhD in a related field is a plus
  • 8+ years of experience in a data analytics or data science role and managing a small team, preferably working in a consumer subscription based business model
  • Demonstrated ability to independently plan and execute repeatable analyses and recommend actionable strategy
  • Ability to translate business strategies into multiple, interrelated projects and lead cross-organizational, cross-functional projects
  • Excellent communicator who easily bridges the gap between data and business owners
  • Creative thinker, adept at understanding a wide breath of retail analytics use cases and identifying the data and analytics necessary to make them into a reality
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL; familiarity with big data frameworks (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Strong knowledge of Looker, including architecting and building efficient LookML, maintaining user-friendly self-service explorers, and creating executive level dashboards.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing, ETL processes, and best practices for data management
  • Prior experience in people and team management of 3-5 years 
  • Demonstrated success working in a fast-paced, swiftly-changing startup environment

What we are looking for:

  • Advanced Degree: BA/BS in Economics, Statistics, Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, or other quantitative field, with a Master's or PhD in a related field preferred.
  • Extensive Data Experience: 8+ years of experience in a data analytics or data science role, including managing a small team, ideally within a consumer subscription-based business model.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in programming languages (Python, R, SQL), big data frameworks (Spark, Hadoop), and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure). Strong knowledge of Looker, data warehousing, ETL processes, and data management best practices.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of data engineers, BI analysts, and data scientists. Experience in people management and team development.
  • Business Acumen: Demonstrated ability to translate business strategies into actionable data projects and to communicate complex data insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strategic Thinking: A creative thinker capable of identifying innovative data-driven solutions to business challenges and opportunities.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Experience in driving data-driven decision making and developing data products (dashboards, reports, simulation tools) to empower self-service analytics.
  • Startup Experience: Successful track record of working in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving startup environment.

This is a hybrid role that will require prospective candidates to be in our NYC headquarters 3 days per week.

Salary Range: $200,000 - $250,000 base salary, equity and benefits. The base pay is one component of Nanit's total compensation package, which may also include access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, and basic life insurance. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we'll consider your experience and other job-related factors.
