Description: The Carpenter position will be responsible for installing, repairing, finishing, and maintaining various zoo structures, handrails, bridges, fixtures, and buildings. The Carpenter position will also assists with building small structures and fencing.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for performing assigned carpentry tasks in an efficient manner that meets zoo quality standards.
• Responsible for maintaining shop, tools and all equipment in good condition.
• Responsible for adhering to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
• Performs work in a safe manner for self, other staff and visitors, and adheres to all safety standards.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

• Ability to clearly follow directions, work in an organized and efficient manner, and measure accurately.
• Ability and willingness to work in both a team and independent environment.
• Ability and willingness to receive and respond to task instructions in a professional manner.
• Ability to manage time and assigned tasks in timely and efficient manner.
• Ability to professionally and safely use hand and power tools and typical equipment such as radial arm saws, drill presses, drills, etc.
• Ability to safely work with ladders, scaffolding, personal lifts, and from boom trucks.
• Ability to interact professionally with both staff and visitors.
Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to work outside year-round under typical Tennessee temperatures, sometimes for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to stand and move around for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to bend, stoop, and extend oneself as required to perform assigned tasks.
• Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 100 pounds.
• Must be able to grip tools with hands and perform repetitive motion tasks.
Other requirements:
• Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Must have a minimum of 2 year’s carpentry/construction experience.
• Valid Driver's License is required.
Work Schedule:
- Weekend and evening work as required.
- Some holiday work may be required.

Pay Range
