Supervisor, R&D Lab Operations
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Supervisor will support the R&D department by maintaining highly functional and operational R&D laboratories in Austin, TX. The purpose of this position is to build and oversee efficient laboratory operations that allow research associates and scientists to seamlessly execute experiments and complete ongoing company projects.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform ordering of laboratory equipment, reagents, consumables, and samples.
- Plan and forecast consumption levels based on current and upcoming project load.
- Coordinate and/or perform lab equipment repairs, calibrations, and preventative maintenance.
- Onboard new equipment and optimize space usage and workflow.
- Manage Lab Associates and/or Equipment Associates.
- Support R&D Laboratory Operations Director with EHS compliance, Space Planning and Usage, Lab and Equipment Support, and Procurement.
- Monitor equipment performance.
- Manage equipment usage.
- Write and update SOPs to guide subordinate employees.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Work with EHS to maintain a safe and compliant laboratory.
- Monitor chemical and biohazardous waste streams.
- Act as the main point of contact for lab personnel with inquiries related to safety, supplies, purchasing, demonstrations, and miscellany.
- Clearly communicate all process changes or reasons for implementation to lab staff and be able to accept feedback.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS or MS in biological sciences or related fields.
- 2-3 years of previous lab management experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Proficient in basic molecular biology technologies and instruments: PCR, sequencing, liquid handling, solution preparation, sample storage and processing, etc.
- GLP/GCLP/GMP experience preferred.
- Knowledge and experience with equipment IQ/OQ/PQ, preventative maintenance, calibration, monitoring, and management.
- Knowledge and experience with laboratory inventory management.
- Knowledge and experience with EHS compliance.
- Knowledge and experience with facility environment and monitoring.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Great attention to detail.
- Self-motivated.
- Ability to optimize workflows by identifying and eliminating redundancies.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Capable of performing basic handyman activities (assembling wire shelving, cabinets, lab benches, mounting wall racks, etc.).
- Duties may require working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends) at times.
