Lead Bioinformatician
POSITION SUMMARY:
Natera is currently seeking a Lead Bioinformatics Scientist to join our Women's Health Bioinformatics team. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in data analysis for wet lab support and should have extensive experience with NGS data. The individual will provide support for analysis of large and complex genomics data sets generated within the R&D groups. They will support the design, data analysis and interpretation of studies in the context of research, development, product validations, clinical trials, regulatory submissions, and scientific publications.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate with bench scientists to design and analyze experiments to evaluate novel assay technologies, and provide independent interpretation and recommendations for assay optimization.
Provide technical support for assays in production, including troubleshooting, QC monitoring and reporting out to lab operations, development and bioinformatics teams.
Develop algorithms and tools as necessary to support development of new products, including contributions to the bioinformatics pipeline.
Act as an internal technical consultant to other functional groups or their members by providing expert advice on bioinformatics methodology
Work closely with interdisciplinary teams including assay, engineering, biostats, commercial and lab operations to support the development of new products.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in bioinformatics with 6 years post-graduate experience, or PhD with 3 years of post-graduate experience (preferred)
At least 4 years practical experience with data analysis tools such as Python or R
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Expert knowledge of bioinformatics tools for NGS including all aspects of sequencing QC and secondary analyses including variant calling.
Strong programming and scripting experience in Python, R and shell.
Fluent in all aspects of exploratory data analysis and visualization for complex data sets and ability to distill observations to actionable recommendations.
Deep understanding of NGS workflows from sample extraction to sequencing.
Familiarity with cloud computing and workflow management tools such as SnakeMake, WDL or NextFlow.
Familiarity with typical approaches, best practices, and regulatory standards in CLIA product development design
Ability to communicate effectively with wet lab groups and explain clearly technical bioinformatics concepts.
Ability to work independently while managing multiple objectives and timelines
Desire to work in a fast-paced environment with potential for high impact in a small team
