Scientist R&D
POSITION SUMMARY:
Natera is a global leader in cell-free DNA testing. We measure fetal, tumor, or donor cfDNA at the molecular level to help inform personalized health care decisions with a non-invasive test. The Natera R&D is looking for a highly motivated Scientist to join the rapidly growing assay development team to help build the future of Natera. In this position, you will be an integral part of high-performing teams to positively impact the business and our patients. You will support and/or lead dedicated junior scientists and laboratory technicians to plan, execute, and manage scientific studies under design control in a regulated environment to help improve and expand Natera's state-of-the-art product portfolios.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage assigned technical projects and associated timelines and deliverables as a subject matter expert in NGS-based assays.
- Drive the planning, design, execution, and reporting of product development studies under the design control quality system.
- Collaborate closely with laboratory scientists, automation engineers, biostatisticians, and data scientists within a dynamic and rapidly growing R&D team to develop new and innovative molecular diagnostic assays.
- Communicate and document experimental data, scientific findings, and recommendations to R&D and other functions, including Lab Operations, Scientific Affairs, Product Management, Quality, and Regulatory groups.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS, MS. or PhD Degree in genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry or a closely related field. Typically requires a university degree and a minimum of 8 years of related experience or a MS degree and 4 years of related experience or a PhD and 2 years of related experience
- Experience in developing diagnostic tests or reagent kits in a regulated environment.
- Knowledge of design control processes, including design change, risk management, design requirements, verification and validation.
- Experience on cross-functional teams and/or managing projects.
- Must possess very strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Mastery of NGS-based assay development with hands-on experience on Illumina platforms.
- Mastery of qPCR/multiplex PCR, including primer design, master mix formulation, and protocol optimization; fundamental expertise in nucleic acid quantitation and fragment analysis.
-Experience with high throughput sample processing and automated liquid handlers in a CLIA lab environment
- Experience in cell-free DNA technologies.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and operational troubleshooting skills -proficient in data analysis using advanced analytical and statistical tools (e.g., JMP, Excel).
- Experience in design verification/validation studies in compliance with current applicable regulations, laws, and guidance, including but not limited to US and EU regulations.
- Proven success in collaborative and individual projects.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills; strong time management skills with superb attention to detail, producing work of exceptional quality and accuracy.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment and manage competing priorities.
- Proactive in identifying issues and addressing them with solutions-oriented approaches.
- Fluent and proficient in scientific writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
