Manager Automation Engineering
The Manager, Automation Engineer within the Process Automation Group contributes to the support, development, and implementation of automation systems and workflows to support the processing of samples in R&D and clinical diagnostics laboratory environments. This individual collaborates with a team of scientists and engineers on prioritization and support of a fleet of automated liquid handlers. They will also prioritize and track the work being done by their team to support said instruments. There will also be project opportunities to conceptualize, design, develop, and implement solutions designed to optimize the performance and increase the efficiencies of the laboratory processes.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Support liquid handling robots.
- Build knowledge on hardware and software on multiple types of laboratory automated liquid handlers, such as Tecan Fluent, Hamilton STAR and Vantage, and Beckman i7, among others.
- Lead a team of people dedicated to supporting a fleet of automated liquid handling instruments supporting R&D assay development and workflowsBuild rapport with end-users, and coordinate with cross-functional teams.
- Track support needs across the fleet of instruments and look for opportunities to create proactive service procedures.
- Prepare User Requirement and Testing Procedure, Standard Operating Procedures, and related documentationOversee the functional and validation testing, IQ/OQ/PQ Additional responsibilities include user training, troubleshooting, optimizing the workflows, and on-going support for the end-users
Qualifications:
- BS degree in Biomedical engineering, closely related scientific field, or equivalent; MS degree preferred
- A minimum of 7 years of laboratory automation engineering experience required with a minimum of 8-10 years of relevant industry experience
- Technical proficiency and experience in automation and systems development and integration for the life science industry, especially with robotics and liquid handling systems
- Experience in computer programing is required
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Strong project management skills, organizational skills, and written and verbal communication skills are required
- Flexibility and self-initiative required to support several simultaneous automation projects
- Biotech, pharmaceutical, lab automation providers, or clinical-laboratory experience is highly desirable
