Histology Lab Operator II
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Histology Lab Operator II is a member of the Histopathy Department responsible for assisting HT/HTLs in analyzing specimens and maintaining equipment in good condition.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assists certified/licensed personnel in clinical patient testing in accordance with the SOP
• Perform histological preparations for the tissue whole exome sequencing laboratory with little to no errors
• Duties may include but not limited to: preparation of tissues, stained slides, macrodissection and supporting workflow tasks
• Sets up equipment and assists with automated lab procedures, as applicable
• Assist and complete daily tasks
• Maintains equipment and instruments in good operating condition
• Maintain sufficient inventory of material, supplies, and equipment in the laboratory for the performance of duties
• Documents information accurately and in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
• Provides Guidance for new team members
• Train on specialized instructions for instruments/protocols (super users)
• Identifies and escalates stuck cases and unresolved issues
• Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
• A minimum of 2+ years related experience
• An associate or higher, degree in a histotechnician program OR An associate degree or higher, in one of the chemical or biological sciences AND one year of experience and/or training in histology within the past 5 years OR - completion of a course of training of at least nine months in a histotechnician program OR A bachelor's, or higher, degree in one of the chemical or biological sciences, including a combination of thirty (30) hours in biology and
chemistry; and either one of the following conditions:
- one year of experience and/or training in histology within the past 5 years OR
- completion of a course of training of at least nine months in a histotechnician program
• A copy of the degree is required at the time of hire; the degree must either be from the US or equivalent to a US
degree

• Excellent interpersonal, communication, computer, and technical skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Word processing and data management
• Ability to work well in a group
• Adhere to the department's time and attendance guidelines

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Duties typically performed in BSL-2 laboratory with potentially hazardous material
• Standing or sitting for long periods of time may be necessary
• Duties may require working weekends and overtime
• Must be able to lift boxes or supplies up to 35 lbs.
• Duties require wearing safety goggles, gloves, and laboratory coat.
• Duties require exposure to cold air due to frequent accessing of refrigeration and/or freezer units.
• Repetitive hand motion may be necessary
