Director, Digital Strategy and Advocacy
WHAT IS THE ROLE
This role is responsible for setting the vision for how the organization uses digital communications to drive advocacy and action—and ensuring that vision is executed effectively.
The Director leads a multi-channel digital program that persuades, mobilizes, and grows an engaged base of advocates. This role ensures every platform works together to move audiences from awareness to action and positions digital as a core driver of organizational impact.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Digital Strategy & Campaign Leadership
- Own the organization’s digital strategy and how it advances advocacy and policy priorities
- Lead integrated campaigns across social, email, and digital platforms that drive engagement, influence, and action
- Set direction for how channels work together, ensuring consistency in voice, message, and approach
Social Media & Content Direction
- Own organic social and partner on paid social strategy, ensuring both work together to extend reach and drive action.
- Set content strategy and oversee a forward-looking calendar tied to campaigns and priorities
- Create high-quality, platform-specific content that drives engagement and action. Where appropriate, produce and present short-form video and explainer content that distills complex policy into clear, engaging stories.
- Set and track KPIs for reach, engagement, and action, using performance data and platform trends to continuously refine approach.
Email, Audience Growth & Engagement
- Own the organization’s email strategy, including newsletters, campaigns, segmentation, and list growth
- Build and oversee ladders of engagement that intentionally move audiences to action
- Lead sustained digital organizing and “keep warm” strategies to maintain an active advocate base
- Use A/B testing and performance data (open, click-through, and conversion rates) to improve outcomes and grow list health
Website & Digital Ecosystem
- Partner on website strategy and serve as a reliable backup on execution across C3/C4 platforms
- Ensure website content and user experience support campaigns, storytelling, and advocacy goals
- Apply SEO best practices and strengthen visibility in an evolving AI/search landscape
- Oversee effective use of digital tools and platforms (e.g., CRM, texting, advocacy tools) to support targeting and impact
WHO ARE YOU
- You have 7+ years of experience in digital communications, ideally in advocacy, nonprofit, or political campaigns.
- You use digital to persuade, mobilize, and influence — not just inform.
- You think at a systems level about how channels and audiences connect, not as isolated tactics.
- You set strategy and drive execution, knowing when to stay high-level and when to get into the work.
- You are a strong writer who can maintain a clear, consistent, and compelling voice across platforms.
- You are comfortable working in social media publishing and workflow tools, such as Sprout Social and monday.com.
- You are familiar with content management tools and platforms, such as Wordpress and Elementor, and how to use them to make routine website updates.
- You understand SEO and are curious about how AI is shaping search and discovery.
- You can create or direct engaging visual and video content for digital platforms in tools such as Canva and/or Adobe Suite. Experience presenting on camera (social video, explainers, YouTube) is a plus.
- Experience running paid social and digital (Meta, LinkedIn, Google Ads), including audience targeting, budgeting, and performance optimization, is preferred.
- You manage multiple priorities with strong judgment, attention to detail, and follow-through.
- You use data to make decisions and define success based on meaningful engagement and action.

WHO WE ARE
The National Alliance for Public Charter Schools believes that all families deserve high-quality public school options. Charter schools are independent public schools providing families with a new set of public school options. Each of these schools is developed to be a partnership between parents, teachers, and students.
When given the option, parents are choosing to enroll their children in charter schools. In fact, the demand for charter schools is far outpacing the supply in most communities. What began as a small movement in a few states has grown to become a major force in education reform across the country. Through advocacy, research, and strategic communications, the National Alliance works to grow the number of high-quality charter schools available to all families, especially those who do not have access to high-quality public schools.
