Role Summary
The Manager of Retirement Consultants leads a team of professionals focused on driving policyholder engagement, plan participation, and retirement readiness across the 403(b), 457(b), and 3121 plan markets. This individual blends people leadership with direct field execution, campaign development, and strategic coordination across departments.
The Retirement Consultants team plays a critical role in ensuring agents are supported and accountable for increasing policy flow, servicing plan sponsors, and maintaining high standards of participant communication.
In addition to leading the team, this role will actively be responsible for assisting with the development and management of retirement marketing campaigns, agent training, lead generation management, flow annuity suspense business management, and interaction with Agents, Plans Sponsors, and Field Leaders with an emphasis on connecting with agents and agencies to engage with policyholders and prospective clients in plan sponsor relationships.
The ideal candidate blends strategic thinking, servant leadership, and hands-on execution, aligning with National Life Group’s vision in the employer sponsored plan markets.
This position currently offers an onsite work schedule, with the expectation that you are in the office four days per week during onsite core days. Our current onsite core days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The work schedule type and core days are subject to change with advance notification and manager discretion.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide coaching, performance management, and mentorship to a team of Retirement Consultants, driving accountability, growth, and alignment with the Retirement Business goals.
- Act as a “producing” leader by engaging directly with Agents, Plan Sponsors, and Field Leaders to drive business in underperforming plans along with leading key Retirement Services initiatives like Certified Training, State Mandate, Training, and Retirement campaigns (i.e. LifeChanger or the Year, Do Good Heroes, Restart Flow, Quarterly Initiatives)
- Partner with the Reporting team to identify and prioritize high-opportunity regions, plans, and agents to focus the team’s efforts on activities that drive the greatest policy flow, participation, and retention.
- Oversee team workflows and adherence to process by leveraging tools like Salesforce and Tableau to monitor and improve execution of group email inquiries, leads, and follow-up protocols.
- Partner with Relationship Managers, Sales Desk, Field Leaders, Advanced Sales, and Retirement Business Leadership to align consultant efforts with national campaigns, regional opportunities, and other company initiatives.
- Measure and proactively report on individual and team performance using KPIs, dashboards, and activity tracking, continuously refining strategy and execution to meet organizational targets.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Education, or a related field.
- 7–10 years of experience in retirement services, annuity distribution, or financial services
- 3+ years in a people management or team leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of retirement plans (403(b), 457, FICA, SEP, SIMPLE, and other public sector retirement plans) and regulations.
- Proficient with CRM tools (Salesforce preferred), Excel, Tableau, and project management tools.
- Ability to travel (up to 25% of the time)
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated success coaching sales professionals or consultants.
- Experience with lead generation, campaign development, and territory management.
- LIMRA/LOMA, ASPPA, NIPA designations or NTSA CRES certifications, willingness to obtain.
- Retirement Plan Specialist or NTSA CRES designation.
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills.
- FINRA Series 6 and 63, desired

Base Pay Range. The base pay range for this position is the range National Life reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors, including: prior experience and job-related knowledge; education, training and certificates; current business needs; and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances.
Additional Compensation and Benefits. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in National Life’s discretionary annual incentive programs, subject to the rules governing such programs. If hired, the employee will be in an "at-will position" and National Life reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Salary Pay Range
$101,250 - $148,500 USD
