Board Relations Manager

INTRO TO POSITION

Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, leading the Governance and Regulatory Team within the Office of General Counsel, the Board Relations Manager will support NPR’s goals by expertly coordinating the project management, communications, scheduling and organization required for maximum effectiveness by NPR Directors.  

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage all aspects of virtual and in-person board and committee meetings and events, including online elections.
  • Build and manage board and committee meeting calendars, including posting open sessions to the NPR website.
  • Serve as the single point of contact for administrative details related to all board and committee meetings between NPR staff and board members, coordinating with other assistants as needed.
  • Build and manage annual board meeting calendars, including all committee calendars.
  • Own board handbook and onboarding tools and materials, keeping it current and identifying new material to be included; create and run board onboarding and offboarding checklists and processes.
  • Support initial document review for compliance with the usage guide for governance materials;
  • Oversee and manage Board elections, including drafting election communications for NPR Inc.
  • Support the election of the PRSS Trust;
  • Draft standard resolutions to ensure compliance;
  • Develop and implement a framework for managing/sharing board data, so that all current and past board materials, handouts, agendas, etc. are organized and easy to find.
  • Manage all contact lists and ensure that all lists are kept up to date.
  • Track, compile, collate, disseminate materials and collateral for legal review and dissemination for all board and committee meetings.
  • Take notes as needed for board retreats, training, and event planning.
  • Provide administrative support, as requested.
  • Possible travel – 10%

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum ten years of relevant experience

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT

  • Bachelor’s degree

WORK LOCATION

  • Hybrid Permitted: This is a hybrid permitted role. Some aspects of this role include duties that are better performed at an NPR facility. The employee will be required to be onsite at the Washington, DC office at least 10 days a year. The employee must also reside in an NPR supported location based on the number of onsite days they choose.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Experience supporting a governing Board
  • Experience in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet, Board Portal software and virtual meeting platforms
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with excellent judgment skills
  • Experience managing board related events and activities
  • Ability to exhibit a high degree of judgment, tact and professionalism when interacting with board members and staff
  • Ability to display a high level of flexibility and resourcefulness; highly adaptable to changing needs and demands
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision; work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Ability and willingness to work longer hours as circumstances require
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building abilities
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Superb writing, proofreading and editing skills
  • Strong eye for developing materials that are clear, digestible and aesthetically appealing
  • Experience supporting attorneys
  • Exceptional organizational skills; ability to project manage through layers and across multiple departments
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

JOB TYPE

  • This is a full time, exempt position.

COMPENSATION

  • Salary Range: The U.S. based anticipated salary range for this opportunity is $99,000 -$112,000 plus benefits. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salaries NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.
  • Benefits: NPR offers access to comprehensive benefits for employees and dependents. Regular, full-time employees scheduled to work 30 hours or more per week are eligible to enroll in NPR’s benefits options.
