Executive Producer, Morning Edition & Up First

Millions of people depend on Morning Edition and Up First to bring them the news they need to start their day. NPR is looking for an Executive Producer to lead these two marquee shows. The ideal candidate prides themselves on journalistic excellence, collaborative leadership, creative storytelling across platforms and an insatiable appetite for news.
Each daily broadcast and podcast is a unique curation of stories from NPR reporters and correspondents based throughout the United States and the world. The hosts interview newsmakers and contribute their own deep reporting. You will lead a talented team of journalists creating unique and unforgettable stories that will serve audiences both live and on demand.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish and execute editorial vision that will grow cross-platform audiences for Morning Edition and Up First.
- Coach and provide guidance on content and format. Inspire staff to produce consistently compelling programming across platforms.
- Foster and grow a diverse team, prioritizing inclusivity and the representation of multiple perspectives.
- Ensure that all material published meets NPR standards and practices, including standards of fairness, completeness, independence and impartiality.
- Oversee staff schedules, performance management, diversity goals and budget.
- Supervise at least 10 direct reports, including preparing their regular performance reviews, and making effective recommendations regarding any hiring, promotion and discipline for these positions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 10 years national journalism experience, in roles of increasing responsibility, including 5 years experience as a senior manager.
- Demonstrable news judgment; specifically, the ability to identify significant stories quickly, gather stakeholders, define strands of coverage across successive news cycles and help lead an evolving process.
- Proven ability to focus collaborative efforts on the achievement of agreed outcomes within finite timeframes and budgets.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse team in a high stress environment.
- Flexibility, creativity and eagerness to innovate and embrace change.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience leading a daily national broadcast.
- Control room familiarity in live daily news production.
- Experience working on video platforms.
- Experience innovating execution and delivery of broadcast content for digital audiences live and on demand.
- Ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously.
- Understanding of the public media ecosystem in the United States.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
Minimum Bachelor's degree or equivalent in work experience.

On-site: This is an on-site role based in Washington, DC.
JOB TYPE
This is a full time, exempt position.
COMPENSATION
Salary Range: The U.S. based anticipated salary range for this opportunity is $187,000-$220,000 annually, plus benefits. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salaries NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.
Benefits: NPR offers access to comprehensive benefits for employees and dependents. Regular, full-time employees scheduled to work 30 hours or more per week are eligible to enroll in NPR’s benefits options.
