INTRO TO POSITION

NPR seeks a highly-motivated and proactive problem-solving individual to join the PRSS Network Operations Center team (NOC).

The Public Radio Satellite System (PRSS) serves as the main interconnection system for public radio, delivering thousands of hours of news, music and specialized programming to public radio stations throughout the United States and U.S. territories, in addition to commercial and private clients. NOC technicians operate, maintain and oversee the overall health of the integrated network management systems 24/7/365 days a year.

NOC technicians are responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality audio in a timely and precise manner. Daily tasks include scheduling, routing, and monitoring transmissions using both internet and satellite carriers. Technicians also act as liaisons, providing oversight and control on bartered satellite space and troubleshooting support. Additionally, NOC technicians provide quality assurance inspections for audio files and/or services along with monitoring hardware, and interpreting alarms to catch and avoid points of failure.

NOC technicians often work with departmental colleagues, such as system engineers and developers, to investigate and escalate complex issues, sometimes during fast paced situations. The NOC is the main point of command during system impairments or outages. NOC technicians must demonstrate the ability to lead by communicating calmly and clearly across teams, service providers and clients to quickly restore service and system confidence.

Successful candidates demonstrate a strong attention to detail, are avid troubleshooters and are collaborative and responsible colleagues. Teamwork, adaptability, professionalism and an evolving growth mindset are desired skill sets. Multiple ranges of expertise will be considered, however, an existing background in broadcast services, particularly content delivery and network content management systems is a plus.

This is a union represented role covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with NABET-CWA

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
