INTERN WILL LEARN AND BE EXPOSED TO:
NPR is looking for an Impact and Engagement Intern to support the Impact and Engagement Team in the Member Partnership department. Our department’s work is to strategize with, engage, and sustain the NPR Network: a local-national media network comprised of 246 independent media organizations in communities around the country, founded on a mission to create a more informed public.
In this writing-centered role, you’ll support our overarching strategic goals to build strategies for NPR Network transformation — and sustain and champion the Network. You’ll assist the Impact team as we engage Members virtually and in-person, create an annual NPR Network impact report for public-facing use, showcase NPR’s editorial programming, and chronicle the accomplishments of NPR Member organizations within the Network and beyond.
Interns will have the opportunity to experience & support the work of the team in the following areas…
Support overall engagement with NPR Network:
- Maintain spreadsheet of production details — running orders, panelist info, and follow-up resources — for virtual Network webinars
- Research information for travel reports designed to brief NPR executives before their trips to Member stations
- Assist with documentation and planning process around NPR host, producer, and journalist travel for station and/or content based events.
- Archive NPR Network communications and resources (webinar recordings, announcements to station leadership, and the weekly Scoop newsletter) on NPR Studio, our virtual platform for NPR Network staff
- Prepare slides for the 2026 NPR Broadcast Program Showcase, ongoing webinars, and monthly Impact & Engagement team overviews
- Aid in ad-hoc virtual and on-site production of potential interviews between NPR hosts / reporters and station journalists
Assist with the process of building the weekly NPR Network newsletter, Scoop:
- Create templates for each Scoop newsletter using Salesforce Marketing Cloud
- Propose curated highlights of NPR programs in our Airtable comms tracker
- Find photo options and design graphic banners as needed
Help champion and chronicle NPR Network impact data
- Organize and compile information for a single NPR Network Impact spreadsheet that summarizes the invaluable impact that each Member station has on its community
- Member organization research and data entry for internal projects/spreadsheets
- Track clicks and opens for each edition of Scoop using Salesforce Marketing Cloud data dashboards
Support the refresh and maintenance of resources both internal (NPR) and external (NPR Network):
- Create photo compilations for NPR broadcast program marketing pages
- Copyedit marketing and operational language in our Salesforce content management system for each of our broadcast programs
- Organize Member Partnership team Google Drive folders
All work of the intern is to be performed under the close supervision of the host team
