
NPM Audience Data Manager, Sponsorship

INTRO TO POSITION
This role actively collaborates with the product, sales, programmatic and digital operations teams to create and maintain audience data segments for use in sponsorship and across the entire NPR organization.

An ideal candidate should have a strong interest in digital media, digital sponsorship, ad tech, data analysis and podcasting, as well as an enthusiasm for public media, its mission and its programs.
This position is remote-permitted, but candidates must reside within the 10 states where National Public Media Operates: NY, NJ, CA, CT, MD, VA, IL, CO, MN and Washington, D.C.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will manage National Public Media’s sponsorship data operations, primarily focusing on the following tasks:
- DMP & Data Vendor Management
- Build and maintain first-party data segments within our DMP, Permutive, with a focus on driving performance for NPR’s sponsors
- Oversee the onboarding of data partners and activation of their segments across our inventory
- Internal SME on data technology partners, capabilities, matching methodologies, etc.
- Internal Adoption & Enablement
- Oversee go-to-market strategy for audience data capabilities, working with marketing and sales team to create and maintain sales collateral around data strategy
- Provide training sessions, documentation, and materials to support cross-departmental product adoption and sales enablement
- Data Expertise & Client Activation
- Serve as the primary contact on sponsorship-related data targeting, integrity, and methodology questions. This includes engaging directly with clients on data-related capabilities, filling out sponsor data RFIs, completing questionnaires about NPR’s data vendor stack, and effectively articulating how data can be leveraged to achieve client goals
- Provide client recommendations on contextual targeting, brand safety, and brand suitability capabilities and best practices across podcasting and display inventory
- Work with sales and media planning teams to package audience segments for digital proposals in order to meet client targeting KPIs, and drive higher CPMs, and grow overall spend levels from digital sponsorship campaigns
- Data Strategy & Maintenance
- Collaborate closely with product team to develop and oversee a strategic roadmap for data products and technology, identifying opportunities for new capabilities/products, resolving data maintenance issues, and tracking results of changes
- Create & maintain benchmarks and performance data for audience and contextual segments
- Work with NPR’s product team on data connectivity/enablement, user authentication, and content segmentation, driving work to activate key IDs/signals and enable them across advertising platforms and channels
- Programmatic Optimization
- Identify new first- and third-party identity partners to improve programmatic performance, and partner with the programmatic team for vendor onboarding and implementation across all SSPs
- Explore/scope a potential ID graph/ID bridging solution for NPR’s inventory
- Analyze the performance of identifiers and signals across in the bid stream for all programmatic demand partners/integrations; establishing benchmarks, tracking performance and identifying areas for improvement across key metrics like bid rate, CPMs, and fill rate
- Support programmatic team to ensure compliance with privacy legislation across programmatic data flows, and QA CMP accuracy for programmatic tech stack
- Compliance & Privacy
- Support consent management work as it relates to sponsorship products and vendors, clarifying data privacy and building out technical requirements
- Work with NPR legal and consent teams to maintain advertising/sponsorship compliance with all privacy legislation

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 4+ years total experience in these fields: advertising operations, programmatic management, product marketing management, or audience analytics
- 2+ years experience operating a data management platform (DMP), creating/maintaining audience segments based on data events
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, previous experience in a customer service or client-facing role a plus.
- Experience operating under time pressure urgency and fielding time-sensitive requests from clients/stakeholders
- Must have attention to detail, ability to work independently and as part of a larger team, previous experience with cross-functional project management involving multiple teams.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with Permutive DMP and identity vendors such as LiveRamp
- Experience working with programmatic DSPs/SSPs and troubleshooting programmatic delivery
- Experience in ad-serving platforms such as Google Ad Manager 360 or Megaphone
- Strong analytical skills and experience working large data sets / reporting tools a plus

REQUIRED SKILLS
- Hands-on experience creating insights from using digital data (Ex. Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, Google Ad Manager, etc.)
- Experience with optimization of digital media campaigns (search, display, email) or site optimization using site analytics tools
- Project Management: Must have project management experience and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Candidates should have a proven track record of project management, planning and designating project resources, delegating responsibilities, monitoring progress, keeping key stakeholders informed, and completing projects on time and within budget.
- Organization Skills: Must have attention to detail, ability to work independently and ability to manage multiple priorities at a time.
- Relationship Management: Ability to drive action, coordinate timelines, and align key stakeholders across NPR with competing priorities
- Strong analysis skills including skills to rapidly learn new data assets

- This is a full time, exempt position.
COMPENSATION
Salary Range The U.S. based anticipated salary range for this opportunity is $88,000 - $96,000 plus benefits. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salaries NPM expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.
